We often hear the word “purpose” in the personal development field. One of my favourite lines that I use in my speeches is “Find your purpose, and live it with passion”. Yet, sometimes we need more clarity on the word “purpose” in the context of personal development .

If I were to ask you right now, “What is your purpose in life?” would you be able to give me a clear answer without over-analysing it?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Please take a minute to reflect on that question. What answer immediately comes to your mind?

About four years ago, I read a book called “WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? Discover the purpose of your life”. In that book, best-selling author Keith Leon talks about self discovery ie. why am I here? Although at the time I had a clear idea of my purpose in life, reading that book made me gain clarity on purpose!

Let me ask you three questions:
• Do you know your purpose in life?• Do you generally act with purpose?
• What would it mean to you, and how would it impact your life if you not only discovered your purpose, you also connected with your purpose?

Please think about these questions, and then give answers to them.

The purpose of your life could be very different to the purpose of your day. For example, the purpose of your life could be to be a loving family man/woman.

That could be very different from the purpose of your day. For example, the purpose of your day could be to get the car serviced, pick up the kids from school, and go to the gym at night.

My point is this – are you in touch with your purpose (be it your life purpose or the purpose of your day)? Do you act with purpose? Do you remind yourself of your purpose?

The reason that I am being so emphatic on realising and connecting with your purpose is because purpose driven individuals tend to excel at things that they put their minds to. This morning, I was reading a book on public speaking . It was talking about knowing the purpose of every speech that you (as a speaker) give. There was a quote by the author, Rob Sherman “If you don’t know where you are going, you will never realise your destination when you arrive.”

So, please spend some time in connecting with the purpose of your life. Also, every morning, ask yourself “What is the purpose of today?” Then, act with that purpose during the day.

Now, let’s look at passion . As I said earlier, “Find your purpose, and live it with passion ”. Why is passion so important? Because when you act with passion, you become influential, you become contagious, you become an inspiration !

In my opinion, having a purpose without having passion is like having a car tyre without any air in it. It won’t go very far. Hence, I am a big believer in being passionate about things that we do. If you have ever watched any recent videos of Tony Robbins, you would’ve noticed how he ends his videos with “Live with passion”.

I also love how Brendon Burchard ends his videos with “Live fully, love openly, and make your difference today!” That is also encouraging us to inject a dose of passion in our lives.

So, where does your passion lie?

Are you passionate enough about something that makes you act with passion?

Is that passion of yours driving you towards more fulfilment in life?

In my opinion, passion knows no boundaries. If you are passionate about something, you will be productive. For example, I know some people who cut down on their exercise /fitness regime in winter because it is colder, it is wetter, it gets darker earlier, and brighter later. On the other hand, I also know people (including myself) who tend to exercise more in winter despite everything that I mentioned in the previous sentence! Why? Because they are fuelled by passion. Their passion for exercise and fitness knows such boundaries as, what winter brings.

Now, let’s look at promising. In the context of this newsletter, I will use “promising” in reference to your life and your future.

Having a purpose, and living that purpose with passion will help you create and/or work towards a more promising future. Why? Because you will be excited, you will see opportunities, you will keep learning and growing, and (hopefully) you will keep sharing.

When you connect with your purpose, and you act with passion, and you work towards a promising future/life, your existence will take on a whole new meaning!

Quote: “When you paint success pictures in your mind, you initiate an inner process whereby your attitudes, hopes, aspirations, and enthusiasm are elevated in response to an image of a more promising future. Every person who aspires must first sell themselves hope, the promise of a better life." U.S. Andersen

I hope that I have given you a simple insight into how you can use purpose and passion to create a more promising future.
