Why does President Obama want to Attack Syria? Part 3

Does President Obama really want Peace ? There are plenty of issues that President Obama could spend his time on which would improve America and give you a better quality of life.

But he instead wants to go to war with Syria. Fortunately his plans are being upstaged by Russia and events in Britain and other countries.

Would he like any Awkward Issues Buried and Forgotten? Politicians throughout the ages have united countries against a common enemy. It's a great way to distract from awkward issues which could unite the country against them.

Is President Obama hoping the fuss he's making over Syria will provide a distraction from some very inconvenient truths? Which matters might he like to bury and forget? Apart from the dozen or so issues in parts 1 and 2, here are a few more which could do much to embarrass his administration. Are any of these more important to you than dropping bombs on Syria?

1. FISC - The government continues to insist its spying on you is completely legal
But a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge has now dismissed government objections to releasing secret court interpretations of the Patriot Act. Will the government obey the law, or will it deny Americans the right to know why it's ignoring that inconvenient Fourth Amendment?

2. NSA threatens to charge Yahoo CEO with treason
Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, wanted the public to know more about the extensive US spying on its citizens, but the NSA threatened her instead. She was informed that "Releasing classified information is treason and you are incarcerated."

But when did prison time for telling the truth become American law?

3. It's confirmed, IRS Director Lerner also lied to Congress The IRS claimed that low-level employees in Cincinnati masterminded the politically motivated harassment of Tea Party groups, and its former IRS Director of Exempt Organizations Lois Lerner testified to Congress that she knew nothing and had done nothing wrong in the matter. She then took the Fifth, and invoked her constitutional right to refuse to answer lawmakers' questions.

But now a February 2011 email has surfaced in which Ms. Lerner informed her staff that Tea Party groups are "very dangerous," and asked that her adviser Judy Kindell needs to be kept informed...

4. Benghazi deaths - mission chief punished for his Congressional testimony The former deputy mission chief in Libya opined to Congress that the Obama administration's order against protecting Americans in Benghazi led to two unnecessary deaths.

Gregory Hicks, who has not been reassigned to a post since being removed from Libya, believes he is being punished for his testimony to Congress. The State Department denies this and says it is working on reassigning him. What else would they say?

But the question remains: Why did Obama's administration order against protecting its personnel which lead to two Americans unnecessarily dying ?

5. Prosecutors get off scott-free after falsifying evidence to jail an innocent family
A working-class family was falsely accused of running a crack cocaine operation. U.S. Attorney Grett Grayson convinced a jury to convict the African-American Colomb family on federal drug conspiracy charges, they served almost four months in a federal prison before all the charges were dismissed

It turned out that Grayson had lined up more than 30 jailhouse snitches willing to testify against them - in exchange for time off from their own sentences. Federal Judge Tucker Melancon was so outraged that he ordered an investigation (whose findings have been kept secret) and he has now spoken publicly about the case.

Yet the Colombs have not been officially exonerated; their paltry financial settlement came with a clause insisting the government had done nothing wrong! And Grayson, along with other federal prosecutors, have gone on to use some of the same well-motivated snitches in other cases.

The government officials who falsely jailed them face no comeback because Grayson enjoys absolute prosecutorial immunity, and the sheriff's department and its deputies enjoy sovereign and qualified immunity. Nor will there be any change to the egregious laws and policies that allowed such miscarriages of justice to happen.

6. Obamacare problems: upset unions, lost coverage, delays, increased costs Labor unions are upset about President Obama's broken promise that health care prices won't rise for union members. Obamacare is set to drive up the cost of some union plans, leading employers to drop coverage and jeopardizing health coverage for millions of union members.

Thousands of residents of state-sponsored plans are losing coverage as states cancel health-care plans rendered impracticable by Obamacare's mandatory generous benefits.

Small businesses with at least one employee must notify all employees about the benefits of Obamacare by letter or face a fine of up to $100 a day, say the Department of Labor. The IRS has finalized penalties for not complying with Obamacare rules of $95-695 per person each year, or 1% - 2.5% of household income, whichever is greater. Penalties start in 2014.

President Obama has already signed 14 laws to rescind, amend or change Obamacare, and has taken five separate steps to delay it in some way. Yet Obama has refused to extend subsidies to union-sponsored plans, while new studies estimate that Obamacare will cost a lot more than the official estimates. Who will end up paying for it?

7. Your cash, car, home can be confiscated without you even being charged
You don't need even to be charged before the government can take your property by asset forfeiture laws. Officials can legally seize your cash, land, home, or car once they say the "preponderance of the evidence” points to a crime, which is much less demanding than the “ beyond a reasonable doubt” standard used to convict criminals.

District Attorneys bring hundreds of real-estate forfeiture cases each year and thousands of cases against small quantities of cash, their profit averaging only a few hundred dollars. These cases only sometimes involve an arrest, most people who lose property from civil asset forfeiture are never criminally charged.

In one outrageous case, Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams evicted the Leino family and their children before withdrawing the claim on their house. The bank had foreclosed once they fell behind on their mortgage payments and their home was no longer theirs for the government to take from them.

In civil forfeiture cases, you have to prove your innocence, reversing centuries of jurisprudence and the normal burden of proof. Property owners who haven't even been charged actually have fewer protections than accused criminals. A Pennsylvania judge has understandably criticized civil forfeiture laws as “little more than state-sanctioned theft.”
