When we reincarnate, we travel to our new bodies instantly

It takes no time for the Soul to leave one body and enter into another. The moment one dies, while one end of the Soul is leaving the body, simultaneously the other end approaches in the womb, where its next birth takes place. When the time comes for the Soul to depart from the body, the circumstances and the event at the other end is also taking place for the reception of the Soul. Therefore, after the body’s death , the Soul goes directly into another womb, where all the nourishment and everything necessary for its life there, is immediately provided for.

When we reincarnate do we have an audience with God?

For God, there is no such thing as right or wrong, good or bad; so God never interferes in any of this at all. Many people believe God to be the supreme Authority who decides our punishment for our wrong-doings. But the fact is that God never decides any punishment nor does He reward anyone. The punishment or reward that we receive is all a result of our own karmas (causes). And this result is given to us by Nature.

The dispenser of justice in this world is this mechanical, non-living entity i.e. Nature, whose laws are such that, we automatically get the effect of the karmas that we have bound. When we hurt someone or cause unhappiness to others, we bind bad karma, as a result of which we undergo suffering in our future life. And when we give happiness to everyone, we bind good karma, as an effect of which we in turn experience happiness in our future life. This is how the law of Nature regulates the world. Not even for a single moment does the world remain without regulation.

Theoretically speaking, would it be possible to request God for what we want to?

Once, one questioner asked Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an Enlightened being, a question on somewhat similar lines. The following transcript may help get you your answer:

Questioner: Is a person’s next birth based on the life he wishes, before he dies?

Dadashri: Yes, it’s according to what he wishes. Don’t they say things like, before the person’s death , he had such and such a wish? But that wish is not something newly created by him. That is a balance sheet of one’s whole life. The balance sheet of whatever karma you did throughout your life draws up during the final hour of your death . And it is this balance sheet that determines the next state of existence.

Questioner: After death, not everyone is born again as a human being. Some become dogs or cows?

Dadashri: Yes, there is scientific circumstantial evidence behind that; many scientific causes come together. No one is a doer in any of this. Neither God has done this, nor have you done any of it. You only believe that, ‘I did this’, which gives rise to the next life. When this belief of yours breaks, when the wrong belief and awareness of ‘I am the doer’ is destroyed, and you realize the Self, then indeed You are not the doer.

So, it is the balance sheet of the karmas that one binds in his entire life, which comes forward in the final hour before his death, and it is this balance sheet that determines which life-form he will enter.

Now, let’s Make it a point to use our mind, speech, body for others’ good, as much as possible

While the world always looks at external actions, it is through our inner intentions (the inner meditation) that we bind karma. When you intend to give people happiness through donations of food, medicine or knowledge or practice non-violence, you bind good karma and will reap the rewards of such deeds in your next life. According to the Nature’s law,

Those who take away happiness of others by devious use of intellect such as cheating customers by selling adulterated goods, etc. go into the animal form in the next life,
Those who make people’s life miserable by destroying people’s homes and their lives, and give people pain and torture for their selfish gain go to hell,
Those who are humane, who give happiness and take happiness, and do some good deeds and some bad deeds through their life, come back as humans.
Those with super-human qualities, who give away their own happiness to others and despite being hurt by others, do not retaliate and remain benevolent, go to heaven.
And while we are still alive, let’s destroy the karmas through repentance i.e. pratikraman

At the time of death, Nature takes away our name and all that belongs to that name: our bank balance, property, family and all our belongings – everything! So, if we were to ask, ‘What will come along with me?’, the answer is ‘The conflicts you created with those you met in this life, will accompany you (as karmas).’

Therefore, while we are alive, in any free moment we have, we should recall all our mistakes and immediately do pratikraman i.e. ask for forgiveness :

for all the faults related to attachment, abhorrence, anger, pride, deceit, greed that were done in this life;
for the hurt caused to anyone in the family ,
for the faults committed towards the other people around us, towards our neighbours, our relatives, our friends and your colleagues too.
When we keep doing this, a lot of burden of our karmas go lighter. Pratikraman is done as follows:

First, we recall the Pure Soul (God) residing within the person. Then,

We confess our mistakes before that Pure Soul (God) internally,
We ask for forgiveness for that mistake before the Pure Soul (God) of that person,
And we resolve to the Pure Soul (God) not to repeat that mistake ever again.
Thus, the above-mentioned ‘Pratikraman’ is as good as requesting God for what we want to.

Until One Realizes the Self, the Soul Wanders from One Life-form to Another

Not knowing really ‘who am I’ (the Self), one wrongly believes, ‘I am the body. I am the doer.’ Due to these wrong beliefs, there is life after life, for countless of lifetimes in different life-forms, namely:

1. Celestial

2. Human

3. Animal

4. Hell

Karmas are bound because of Ignorance of our real Self

But when one meets Gnani, the Enlightened One, and from Him attains Self-realization that, ‘Oh! I am a Pure Soul that is eternal, and not this body or name that are temporary’, he stops binding new karmas, and thereby gets onto the path of liberation.

Human body has been acquired with great difficulty, so if one knows how to fulfill his human birth, then one can achieve liberation; until then, there is only endless wandering. This is why even the celestial beings have an intense desire to acquire a human form and meet Gnani.

Everything is confiscated by Nature when we die; God cannot do anything about that. God is not up there sitting in Heavens and ruling the world; He is really the Pure Soul residing within every living creature. So what we need is not an audience with God, but a meeting with Gnani who can make us realize God and thereby liberate us from the cycle of birth and death itself forever!

Author's Bio:

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifested within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able to help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization.
