As a society we are becoming more and more aware of what goes into us and what we put on our skins. This trend is very positive to see and will no doubt add greatly to the fight against obesity , preventable diseases and perhaps even diseases we never knew we could prevent by switching to a more organic and natural lifestyle.

There is no doubt in my mind that you are reading this because you are either already converted in the power of organic and natural products are you are considering switching. We all have our reasons for doing this and this can include becoming sick ourselves or someone close to us, personal preference or a lifestyle choice. We all know of someone effected by diseases and ailments that can be prevented by stopping things like smoking or drinking but how often do we look at what we put on our skin?

It may seem trivial at first and you may be dismissing this saying 'I only put it on my skin, I do not swallow my chemically based moisturiser!' However we all know that the very purpose of most skincare products is for our body to assimilate and absorb the ingredients which are mean to carry the positive benefits. Would we really spend our hard earned money on products that merely coat the surface of the skin and then get washed away the second we jump in the bath or shower?

If like me you feel the answer is no then you will start understanding the reason so many people are now seriously looking at what ingredients make up there favourite skincare products. You will be surprised when you look, trust me, and I can safely assume you are not going to know what 99% of these ingredients are or even how to pronounce them!

At the end of the day you are going to have to make an informed decision after doing your own research and making a judgment call on the benefits. After many years of not looking at or questioning what I ate, what I drank or what I put on my skin I can honestly say I have been very lucky to have my eyes opened. I feel now that I am making more informed decisions as to what I use and what I eat and drink and feel a lot better for it. Knowing exactly what I put on my skin has left me with no doubt as to the benefits of natural and organic skincare products and the feeling that you are left with that you are no putting any potentially harmful chemicals on your skin.

The jury will always be out and no doubt the big players in the skincare market will be quick to dismiss organic and natural skincare (or embrace it to make lots of money!) but please consider all angles and just think about it.
