Dr. Waln Brown grew up in out-of-home placements, including an orphanage, detention center, state psychiatric hospital and juvenile reformatory. A former special education student who failed the ninth grade, Waln earned his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Chicago. He has spent his adult life studying and writing about youth emotional and behavioral problems, including his autobiography The Other Side of Delinquency , Rutgers University Press, 1983, and hundreds of publications that can be purchased at www.amazon.com .
Waln is CEO of the William Gladden Foundation, a nonprofit organization that conducts research and provides training about youth at risk, delinquent youth, juvenile justice, foster children and childhood psychological disorders.
