Barbara Kelly, MSSW, is a Certified Life Coach who received her training through Behavioral Healthcare Consultants. She is currently in the process of completing her Master Life Coach and Holistic Healthcare Practitioner certification. Barbara has been a student of the Law of Attraction since 2003, when she read Lynn Grabhorn's book, "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting."
The information in the book resonated with Barbara's experiences manifesting everything from vegetable juicers, a professional wardrobe, relationships, and housing.
Acting on her intuition, Barbara completed a degree in social work and pursued a position at Austin State Hospital (ASH), an inpatient psychiatric facility in Austin, Texas. Through her position as a Clinical Social Worker and her part-time work in a local Emergency Room, Barbara became adept at working with people who have symptoms of severe mental illness or who are in crisis. Her clients describe her as compassionate and dedicated.
In 2005, Barbara was promoted to Director of Community Relations at ASH, where she had the opportunity to practice many of the skills she uses in her coaching business. Her areas of expertise include fund raising, newsletter creation, public relations, media relations, and mental health education. While in this position, Barbara created the Live at ASH music series, which brought local musicians into the hospital to play for inpatients. She also participated in the development of "Erasing Stigma/Changing Minds," a public education program designed to break down assumptions about mental illness.
Currently Barbara is a partner in Life Gardeners, an Austin-based holistic practice which offers Life Coaching, Reiki Attunements, Therapeutic Gardening and Astrological Consultant. Barbara feels called to share the many skills and insights she has gathered throughout her life in order to support others in listening to their intuition and creating the life they feel called to live.
Barbara's passions include her two daughters, four cats, writing, knitting, and a wide circle of friends.
Experience and educational highlights:
Vaclev Havel said, "Hope is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense no matter how it turns out."
Learning to listen to our intution or inner guidance system is the beginning to co-creation with the universe. Many of the decisions I've made have startled and confused those who are close to me. Learning to listen to my inner voice has brought me innumerable gifts and surprising outcomes. By embracing the idea that life is a journey, not a destination, we open ourselves up to our own creative powers.
Even adversity has served a higher purpose, bringing me closer to my true self. When we look at our problems from a birds-eye view, they become very small. The obstacles in life teach us to have the courage of conviction. They also invite new ways of looking at the world.
I believe that we all have untapped abilities to create abundance and joy in our lives. My desire is to help others reach their full potential. In the hospital setting, my most useful tool was my belief in a patient's ability to have a hopeful and joyful life. My dream is a world where we are mutually supportive and everyone has the opportunity for creative expression.
