What The Bleep Are You Thinking?
The importance of what goes on in our thoughtsThe Source
Look around the room you’re in and give some thought to where it all came from. Not where you bought it or who bought it. Think about the idea, the spark that set things in motion which resulted in the creation of all the things in your in the room around you. Are these things that just materialize out of thin air? Or is it more likely that someone somewhere came up with the idea and brought it into being by focusing his or her mental and physical energy on the idea over a period of time? Take for instance the walls that make up the room in which you sleep, your telephone, and the clothes on your body. All these things and everything else man made began as a thought in the mind of another person.

You could say “duh thanks for pointing out the obvious”. But the obviousness overshadows the profound truth that thoughts become things. Therefore, we should treat our thoughts as things because the thoughts rattling around in our heads from one moment to the next ultimately define who we are and what we create in life. You have to think is before you can do it. You can’t do it before you’ve thought about it.

What We Think AboutEveryone has creative and often innovative thoughts at least some of the time. So why is it that some people are able to take those creative thoughts and make something tangible out of them while the rest of can’t seem to do it so well? The answer comes in two parts. The first part involves what we spend out thought energy doing. Or better yet, let’s label it our Thought Energy Investment. That is, the thoughts we invest our time and thought energy in. If thoughts were a commodity we invest in with a limited supply and a large demand the price of every moment of thought would become a premium and we would take the expenditure of it much more seriously.

Ironically, most of us don’t give much thought as to what’s rattling around in our heads at any given moment. Thus our brains spin around whatever is in front of our faces the most. Television, music, texting with people instead of talking to them, surfing the web. How often do you find Googling one thing and hours later find that you’re off on a tangent from where you intended to be.

The question becomes, who’s the captain of your mental journey? Who’s navigating and keeping you on course? If you had a limited supply of brainpower to use for thought would you use yours this way? There actually is a limit to the amount of thought we each are allotted. That limit is not clearly defined. However there certainly is a beginning and an end to our capacity for thought. Its called mortality.

Why it’s Bad for UsWe need to learn to use our mental resources wisely because what goes on between our ears from moment to moment greatly influences our emotional state and our perception of things.

There is a fallacy that when we are depressed and/or feeling unhappy to perceive this as “I am depressed therefore I have negative thoughts” when in fact to a large extend it’s the other way around. “I have repetitive negative thoughts and those thoughts make me feel unhappy or depressed therefore I am unhappy or depressed”.

Here’s a little fact that can save you a small fortune in therapy if you practice it daily. Stop thinking about negative and you’ll stop feeling unhappy. Worry gets you nowhere so refuse to worry about anything. The news is all bad so don’t watch or read too much of it on a daily basis. If it’s in the news and not something you can vote on or write a letter to your representative about then let it go. DO NOT DWELL ON THINGS THAT ARE OUT OF YOUR CONTROL. Doing so will only make you sick and grumpy. Focus on things you can do something about and forget about things that you can do nothing about.

After hearing bad news form friends or loved ones or watching a small dose of media news parade, always take a few moments to look for and acknowledge what you have to be thankful for in your life. Think about it this way, if the news isn’t about you it’s a good day and you’ve got something to be thankful about.

There is an illusion out there that we have no control over what we feel, that emotions are the driving force in our lives and controlling them is somehow wrong, perhaps even unhealthy. There’s a difference between stuffing emotions and choosing what to dwell on. When emotional situation come up we should allow ourselves to feel and experience the emotion. That’s healthy and normal. It becomes unhealthy when we allow ourselves to dwell on such an event to the point where it dominates our thoughts for an extended period of time.
Faith in Something Bigger than Self
All this may seem airy-fairy to some. However, it’s easier to adopt some mental parameters to live by than suffer a life of depression and misery because you never bothered to choose a course and captain your ship. The analytical types in the world may think it unreasonable to choose not to dissect all the potential problems and hazard in the world around us. If the world and human life were just a random chain of events leading from nothing to nothing it might be good to focus on such things. Getting back to our proven ability to bring things into being from a simple concentrated thought, would focusing on all the potential evils and dangers of the world make our experience of it better or worse?

Faith in something bigger than self makes trusting in the world easier. It’s easier and more productive in terms of living a long healthy life to put our faith in a loving caring creator than to trust in self. Let God and let go is a good way to look at things. Let God do the worrying and let God take care of the big stuff in life. This frees you up to focus on things you can do something about and allows you the thought energy and healthy positive thought environment to do so.Watch What The Bleep You’ Thinking
Choose your thoughts as carefully as you would choose what and how much of your money you invest because with every thought you are making an investment in your quality of life. Will you choose a healthy happy life or an unhappy life of illness and misery? Which will you invest your money on?
