Over the last decade, it has become increasingly obvious that obesity is on the rise. According to the most recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 18.5% of children and nearly 40% of adults had obesity in 2015–2016.

In a recent article by Amy Norton, published on the WebMD site, after a brief leveling off period, obesity is once again on the rise. Although it appeared as if the rise plateaued in recent years, that was short-lived.

If nothing changes, it is estimated that half of all U.S. teenagers will be overweight or obese by 2030. Over half!

That’s alarming.

Fad Diets DON’T Work!

Unfortunately, when people learn these statistics, they are likely to try the latest and greatest fad diet .

Seeing some weight drop, they assume they have the problem under control, only to watch the weight come back on, and some, when they stop the diet .

Fad diets are just that… fads. The greatest solution to weight problems is to get to the core of what’s eating you.

The Truth about Weight Problems

Many people are emotional eaters. Think of your own habit of handling stress, obstacles, money problems, relationship issues, or your child’s grades. When something bothers you, it’s likely you reach for comfort food. Thus, begins the process of adding unwanted pounds.

Weight problems often have little to do with the food you’re eating and more to do with how you feel.

Cravings

We’ve all experienced food cravings. When we see something upsetting on television, feel angry or bored, or have had a rough day, we soothe ourselves with something sweet, crunchy, or creamy. That’s fixing the problem of the craving. Yet, in reality, it’s creating a bigger problem. Added weight that impacts our health.

Think about your own eating habits . When do you crave unhealthy foods? Chances are, it’s when you’re stressed, running on empty, had a tough night’s sleep or just received bad news.

Whether you turn to ice cream, candy, crackers, or chips, you know what it’s like to use food to heal a painful emotion. Then there is the bingeing hangover – the feelings of disgust, judgment, and shame regarding what you just splurged on that makes you feel even worse than before you put that first morsel into your mouth.

What are your triggers?

Unfortunately, if you don’t pay attention to the triggers, you set yourself up for an emotional roller coaster ride using food like an E-ticket at a major amusement park.

Emotions strongly impact our eating and our cravings. When we release some of the stress, guilt, and drama in our lives, we find more balance in our eating – we are drawn to foods that are better for us, eat only when hungry, and stop eating when full. We find true joy and peace in eating and food, as the Creator intended.

Emotional imbalances can be 85 to 95 percent of our eating and weight struggles. We unknowingly hold on to our emotions at a subconscious level where they can affect our eating without our realizing it. Emotions can cause pain and discomfort in many ways, including food cravings and eating disorders .

The emotions trapped in your subconscious can take up space in your body. The result can be pain, eating disorders , and being overweight or underweight, among other problems.

Track When and What You Eat

To get to the core of what’s eating you, it is recommended to notice when you get triggered. One of the best ways to do this is by writing down what you eat, what you were feeling at the time you ate, and how you felt after you ate.

Try this for seven days. You will be amazed at what you learn about your eating habits . In a very short period, you’ll recognize the triggers that have packed on the weight.

Another solution is to determine which foods your body is really asking for. One way to do that is with muscle testing.
