*SHARING SOME THOUGHTS ON THE 'WORLD OF WRITERS':
WRITERS ON THE WRITING JOURNEY

"It took me 15 years to find out that I had no talent for writing, but by then I couldn't give it up, because by then I was too famous to give up."- Robert Benchley

INTRODUCTION

These are some of my notes about "the writing journey", that I have jotted down over the years; so sharing these thoughts, which may be incuded in a new "work", "a labour of art and love"...

Ï write, because I like to make things...and the only things I am good at making are with words."

- PJ O'Rourke

"Writing is like sex in that it can be very nice when you are thinking about it, terrific when you are doing it, very
satisfying afterwards...and you write because you have to."
- anon

"It took me twenty long years of sweat and tears (no blood please, I'm very sqeamish) to become an overnight success."

- "a nony mouse writer"

"I just write what I write. There is this tremendous drive to communicate. You want to get inside the readers skin, their mind and heart. and challenge that person, move that person, open their eyes to things they maybe hadn't thought of before."

- Paul Auster (author of 'Sunset Park')

"Literature's greatest blessing is that it endows the reader with the grace and courage to face life's mysteries."-- Kate De Goldi (New Zealand author)

"For many writers, perhaps most creative people, writing is a form of therapy, in which they are trying to make sense of the world they live in."

"Writers try to make sense of their lives through their 'work'. Writing gives meaning to their lives and often their best writing is done in times of personal crisis. In these times an 'effort-less style' arises from a sense of loss, where sadness is the well-spring of a writer's creativity ."

"I write to give expression to a rather unusual set of life circumstances. So then, I'll just have to write till I drop."

"I hope, I trust that my various writings in the forms of words of encouragement and inspiration , offer a window, shining a light into the human condition."

" Imagination is the highest kite I can fly."
- actress Lauren Bacall

"I want to write books that might change people's lives. perhaps change the way they think and feel, so hopefully changing the reader's life for the better in some way."

"I DO believe that writers have certain obligations to their readers: whether it is to instruct, or entertain, or somehow to extend a person's perceptions of life."

"Writers challenge themselves and their readers in new ways. They continually try to find new niches."

"Your only limit is your own imagination "

- craig lock

"I recognise my responsibility as a writer to write about things I deeply believe in, themes like God, social justice, human rights for all, 'the beloved country' of South Africa, the great human potential...and so on. And even if I'm not doing that, simply to provide an alternative voice to some character."

"My writing mission is through my words to inform, illuminate, entertain, uplift, delight, as well as hopefully even inspiring people. I aim to do this bysharing my knowledge and life experiences - through supporting, encouraging and empowering others to be the best person they can possibly be."

"I truly want to let the light shine through my words to impact and help others...to inspire people throughout our (sometimes happy and sometimes dark and sad, yet always beautiful and magical) world."

"The music is in me and I simply want to, just have to get it out."

"I'd rather attempt something great and fail, rather than attempting nothing and succeed."- Norman Vincent Peale

"Some people see things as they are and say 'why?'. I see the dreams that never were and say 'why not?'"
- Bobby Kennedy

"Together, one mind, one life at a time, let's see how many people we can impact, encourage, empower , uplift and perhaps even inspire to reach their fullest potentials."

"They say that if enough chimpanzees were put in front of enough word processors for enough time, eventually one of them would write Hamlet."
