Nobody ever wants to get fired, of course! Getting terminated from a job can damage not only your reputation, but your confidence in yourself as well. Although this is a forgettable moment in your life, there are things you should learn about yourself also through this experience. Whatever the reason may be that you lost your job, it is important that you recognize them so that you would know what you should work on to become a better professional.

Here are the possible reasons you got fired:

1. You’re not the right fit. It’s as simple as that.

Employers hire candidates not just based on their skills, but also based on how they fit in the workplace. How you may blend with the existing company culture may not be noticed during the interview. Eventually, however, managers will see signs that your personality, perhaps, is not compatible with how they do things at work.

2. You have an unpleasant attitude .

A bad attitude is often a deal breaker in many organizations. Unfortunately, no matter how good a performer you are, if your attitude isn’t tolerable, you may end up losing your job. If you have a bad habit of badmouthing others, or you find it hard to work with other members of the team, it won’t be long before you finally get the pink slip.

3. You keep missing deadlines.

An employee’s ability to meet deadlines is a trait that every employer always notices and appreciates. If you’re always having troubles completing projects before the due date, even your coworkers will notice it and will make others think of you as incompetent and irresponsible.

4. You can’t seem to adjust to the workplace culture.

As a newcomer in the company, it is understandable that it will take time before you get used to the norms and the systems in the workplace. But if after a month or two, for example, and you still seem lost in the way things are done at the office, people at work may start to think that you are intentionally not being cooperative. It just goes to show that you cannot work well with a group.

5. You are misusing company resources and equipment.

At the end of the day, whatever your company allows you to use at work is their property. Thus, using your laptop, cell phone, or even email for personal reasons and purposes won’t look good on you.

Whatever the reason is that you got fired, you have to take this incident seriously if you don't want it to happen again in the future. Remember that this won’t look good in your resume, and it will prevent you from being able to use your employer as a reference. Overall, it will have a negative on your career planning and advancement . Examine yourself and your performance in your job and figure out what went wrong, and use it as a lesson to become better and more professional.
