People get sick through the entire year however the winter time seems like a really hard time of year for the immune system. It's not like the brand "flu season" wasn't assigned to winter for a reason. Cooler conditions and more serious weather conditions have all the makings for weakening the immune system. It is actually tough to lose the flu when you are fighting to stay warm. The loss of access to fresh air and being made to spend the majority of your time indoors where it is stuffy can make it very difficult for your body to keep a cold from setting in. A residence that never has opened up windows is a breeding ground for cold germs. Here are a couple things you can use in making your immune system stronger.

Exercise routinely. Regular and reliable training can make you sweat and increase your endorphin levels. Regular training makes it possible to stay physically fit while retaining your weight and it strengthens your immune system at the same time. Endorphins do more than improve your moods in the frigid and black winter season. They boost your immune system's energy levels which help it ward off infections and illnesses. Studies demonstrated that getting five days of exercise a week can reduce the amount of sick time you take by almost half.

Get a therapeutic massage. There are wide ranging reasons to pamper yourself and treat yourself to a "spa day." Swedish massage therapy, especially, has proven helpful in fighting off infection. Massage helps improve your body's circulation and will activate the cells that you need for keeping infections and flu germs at bay. Not only that but receiving a forty five minute Swedish massage can help you relax. When you don't have a heap of stress weighing you down, it is easier do to all sorts of things!

You could be tempted to lock yourself away from social contact for a few months. After all, the less social interaction you will have, the less likely you will be to come into contact with flu and cold germs right? While theoretically that's true. It is also correct that you need social interaction with your friends to keep your mood elevated. There is not any scientific proof as to why the immune system performs better when you're happy, but it does. You really need those afternoon lunches filled with fun and laughter to stay healthy. Don't stay away from your friends. There are many things you can do to fight against whatever germs you pick up but there isn't anything that replicates the endorphins and chemicals that get released when you're having a fun time with friends.

Staying healthful in the winter doesn't have to be a challenge. The simple fact is that some of the things you might be thinking of avoiding are the same things that can help you stay healthy. Obviously, before you get all gung ho and look at something new, you should talk to your doctor. Your health care provider might have some surprising advice for helping you fight off the flu during "flu season."
