Some of us believe that their frist love is the real and true love. This is probably because we read many romantic novels and watch movies that extol the virtues of being in love for the very first time.

It is important to remember that when we fall in love at a tender age, we are in the process of growing up and moving outside of our protective shell. We meet people who do not live in our home and who are different from us.

When we fall in love the first time, the experience is heady and love is beautiful. We try to hang on to this love and if for some reason, we break up, we are shattered and find it difficult to come to terms.

This is because we have experienced new feelings that were dormant in us and we are confused, hurt and upset when things do not turn out right.

How to get over your first love? The thing to do is to let ourselves grieve. This means crying our heart out if we must.

Let those emotions that are pent up inside of you be spent. This will help a lot. You could also pour out your emotions in a journal as this will help you realize where you went wrong or what really happened to ruin the relationship.

You will be able to read this at a later stage and improve from your mistakes.

Healing takes time -

Remember that time is a great healer. After a few weeks you are bound to feel better. This is a good time to seek help from some support groups. Your family members may rally around you.
If you have friends whom you can confide in, you will feel better once you have poured out your heart and let all that steam out.

This is not the time to jump into another relationship as it will not last when it is on the rebound. There are many people out there who will be ready to lend their shoulder for you to cry on and take advantage of the situation.

This is the time to enjoy the company of your friends and meet new ones. Stay away from your ex and try to blot out the pain and hurt that you have gone through recently.

Avoid all contact and delete their contact numbers. Do not try to get into the social media sites to see what they are up to as this will only make you miserable.

Instead, exercise and keep fit. Spend time and money on improving your wardrobe and looking good. This will also make you feel good.

Learn from your past mistakes -

Remember that the next time around, you will not be as open to a relationship as you were when you were younger and more carefree.

You will be cautious and make sure that your relationship lasts by not making the same mistakes. If you have been badly scarred in the first relationship you will look for faults and snares.

This is not the right way to head in a new relationship. Keep your mind open and give fully as you expect to be given. Learn to respect and confide in each other. You may be surprised to find that you are in a better and more secure relationship this time around.

If you follow the advice given above you will find that it is not difficult to learn how to get over your first love.

Your second love may not be your last love, but once you find true love you will recognize it and learn to hold on to it as you forge ahead with the confidence that you have acquired over the years.
