Childbirth is a key moment for a future mother. Traditional Chinese Medicine rushes to help patients also at this moment. Recent studies show that acupressure is effective in relieving labor pains and shortening the time of labor. The use of acupressure also helps in more difficult cases, sometimes making it possible to avoid a cesarean section and to complete the delivery with the strength of the woman. In turn, acupuncture can be an effective help in relieving the physical and mental stress of a woman at a time when pregnancy is at risk.

Acupressure relieves labor painsResearch conducted by Iranian scientists shows that acupressure is effective in relieving labor pains. The study was conducted on a group of 105 women in the first stage of labor. Acupressure was applied to Hegu points (LI-4) and Ciliao (BL-32). The control part of the group of women did not undergo acupressure treatments - in their case, standard procedures were applied. The reduction in pain experienced was significant in the two acupressure groups compared to the control group throughout the study. It was also found that Ciliao point acupressure (BL-32) was more effective than Hegu point acupressure (LI-4). However, no statistical differences were found in the general regularity of the course of labor. [1]

Acupressure helps in natural delivery and reduces the time of delivery
Iranian scientists also conducted a study on the effects of acupressure on the duration of labor and the need for a cesarean section. Thirteen cases were analyzed. The comparison of the results showed that the use of acupressure increased the chance of a successful natural vaginal delivery - without the need for a caesarean section - compared to births with placebo or no intervention . Data analysis also showed that acupressure contributes to shortening the time of labor. The time reduction averaged 1.3 hours in the active phase of labor and averaged 5.8 minutes in the second phase of labor. [2]

Acupuncture helps women at risk of miscarriage
New research by obstetric acupuncture specialist Debra Betts and her Australian colleagues shows that acupuncture can reduce the physical and emotional symptoms that occur in women when pregnancy is at risk of miscarriage. The study involved 40 women whose pregnancy was at risk of miscarriage. They were divided into two groups: the first one underwent acupuncture treatments and received individualized advice on caring for their health. The second group underwent the so-called controlled touch and similarly, as the first group, they received individualized advice. In women who have undergone acupuncture, significant differences have been observed in the occurrence of major symptoms such as bleeding, cramps or back pain - compared to the latter group. Women reported being dissatisfied with the advice they were getting from biomedical therapists watching over them. Both women who underwent acupuncture and those who underwent treatments of controlled touch appreciated this more active form of therapy. They found that both of these treatments helped them cope with stress and anxiety. However, those women who underwent acupuncture also reported a reduction in physical symptoms as well, which was not mentioned by women in the second group. that both of these treatments helped them cope with stress and anxiety.
