Over the years the mystery of the ability of perfect pitch has only risen. While some people believe that perfect pitch is a natural gift that cannot be learnt with the use of perfect pitch training methods, many others are convinced that this is not true . People who possess this ability are appreciated for their unique ability to identify musical notes without the use of references or guides. It is estimated that 1 in 10,000 people are found with this ability.

Although, there are some who believe that this ability is unattainable even with the use of perfect pitch training very few challenge the obvious fact that amongst Autistic people (also referred to as savants) , the ability of perfect pitch is a lot more common. This ability is in fact a very common feature. There are several explanations as to why this is.

Many hypothesize that the deficiency their deficiency in communication is backed by an keener appreciation of the harmonics of music. Research studies have revealed that the left side of the brain plays a key role amongst people who are capable of perfect pitch. People who had the ability of perfect pitch were found to have left brain areas that was almost twice as large.

This region in the brain is also identified as being responsible for processing of non verbal sounds and language—two areas that are less common amongst the Autistic. Many researchers believe that by using methods which inhibit other parts of the brain, it is possible for people to slowly rebuild their perfect pitch ability. By turning of the areas of the brain that are likely to impede its development, perfect pitch training methods are bound to succeed.

The results of several researches has lent support to the growing view that the ability of perfect pitch lies latent in everyone. Evidence of this can be seen amongst people who were exposed to music during their infancy. Many of these people later grew with the ability of perfect pitch. Because the brain is more receptive during infancy than it is in later years, it is believed that the brain misinterprets the sounds heard during this period to be a language. People are therefore able to grow with this ability.

All of this supports the view that perfect pitch can be learnt with the right type of training. With the use of special training methods, people are able to learn this ability by tuning into sounds the same way savants do. Perfect pitch training is certainly a reality. With the removal of the artificial factors which are impeding the growth of this ability people will be able to successful increase their potential.
