It is generally advisable to follow your heart when making important decisions related to matters of love or even any other sensitive matter in your life.

Why the heart and not the head?

- Where feelings reside, that’s where the heart lies. The heart is close to the Soul whereas the intellect is in line with the ego. The more one leans on the ego, the farther one is from the Soul.

- When following the heart, every act is carried out with utmost awareness that may no one be hurt through my thoughts, acts and words, may no one be unhappy because of me!

- Following your heart means listening to your intuition . It means trusting your instincts and making decisions based on what feels right to you, without hurting anyone.

- When following your heart, there is honesty. When following heart, there is no self-interest or prejudices at work. The heart always sees the general positive and it makes decisions without any selfish motive, whereas the head or intellect weighs the good and bad, generally from a selfish perspective. For example, if one’s pride is nurtured and satisfied, one is positive, and if not, one turns negative. Whereas irrespective of whether one is shown respect or is insulted if one is always thinking about how the other person is not hurt, how he stands to benefit, that is a hearty approach.

- The one who makes decisions or acts according to the heart is easy-going, straightforward and takes into account what is best for everyone involved.

- Whatever one does with a sincere and earnest, genuine, intention flowing from the bottom of one’s heart is said to be hearty. When we follow the heart, it reflects love, warmth, kindness and affection towards other people.

- One who is ruled by the heart is constantly aware of what is beneficial and what is not to others. And one whose intellect is ruling is in the constant awareness of ‘what is profitable and what not to him, what is in it for me and what is not.’ Therefore, take the heart’s side and follow what your heart says; you will be right and you will also feel better after it.

Thus, when what we say comes from the heart, what we think and do is ruled by our heart, and what we express is through our heart, it is said to have been done heartily and without being selfish or hurting others.

Therefore, listen to your inner guidance of the heart before making any major decisions about love and in any life matters. The head will eventually end up hurting you and others.
