There are many methods of cochlear and hearing implants in India. Your doctor would suggest you the best treatment after thorough physical examination andan audiogram or microscopic diagnostic test.State-of-the-art facilities and testing procedures are available in the clinics of best ENT specialists in India.

Few procedures of Cochlear and hearing implants in India would include –
Cochlear Implant (CI)
This is an electronic device with a sound processor that can function similar to cochlea in an inner ear. Therefore, implantation of this device functions instead of cochlea in a damaged inner ear. The doctor would recommend a CI for those with moderate to profound degree of hearing loss in an ear or both ears and when other hearing aids were not helpful in rectifying the issue.

The specialists say, the outcome of CI varies from person to person depending on factors such as structure and condition of cochlea, severity of hearing loss, time period hearing loss persisted before seeking for a treatment and effects of other medical conditions.

Born Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) ImplantThis device is effective for those persons suffering from hearing loss, but with single side deafness. BAHA transmits sound waves to cochlea by a born conduction, unlike other hearing aids that stimulates cochlea by air conduction. BAHA uses a titanium implant that is fixed in the skull bone just behind the ear with a hearing loss. The device then passes the received sound waves through the skull bone to the properly functioning cochlea in the other ear.

This device is also effective on persons with outer ear problems or genetically carried hearing loss when conventional hearing devices are unhelpful. This has also been approved by the Medical Authorities to be used for children over 5 years. Implantation is a minor surgery that takes about only an hour. Recovery is faster that would be about maximum of 2 weeks. However, the dressing on the ear is totally removed by the tenth day.

Vibrant Sound-bridge (VSB) ImplantThis device is recommended for persons with mild to severe degree hearing loss. VBS is of two parts, an audio processor is worn externally that is about an inch long. The other part is fixed in the middle ear together with vibratory structure. This is tiny that is of a size smaller than a rice grain.

This is a commonly used device by many people, due to its simple feature, easy usage, and improved hearing results compared with conventional devices. Its special feature that generates direct vibration, which is passed to middle ear gives excellent results. VBS is able to mimic the vibration caused by the sound waves through the ear canal.

Auditory Brainstem (ABI) ImplantThis device is recommended for persons who are affected by profound degree of hearing loss and who cannot nearly hear any sounds without using a hearing aid. This device has an external processor comprising a microphone and an internal receiver that is surgically implanted. Processor receives sounds and converts these sound waves into electrical signals. Transmitted signals are received by the internal implant that is then directly passed to the brainstem, bypassing both cochlea and hearing nerve.

Implantation of ABI is a complex neurosurgery and would be recommended only after thorough examination and several tests. This device is implanted for persons whose hearing nerve was damaged during a surgery or for whom hearing nerve has no functioning or cochlea is unusually structured. However, the outcome is less predictable as the surgery is complicated. One might not feel any difference or only a slight improvement following the implantation.

People who had undergone a hearing loss treatment highly recommend the cochlear and hearing implants in India.
