The Book “REVIEW” ‘Basic Christianity ’ by John Stott
(Published by Inter-Varsity Press, UK (First edition 1958)

Here are some of my notes from the above book (excellent , simple to read , as well as very illuminating thoughts on the life and person of Jesus Christ). Incidentally, this book (and others by John Stott) is available for download (PDF) at http://www.pdflibrary.info/en/ebook/Basic%20Christianity%20John%20Stott-...

NEW REVELATIONS

The resurrection was the foundation of Christianity . Christianity has its roots in the mystery of eternal life. This faith is a way of understanding the unknowable... as humanity attempts to make sense of the cycle of life, death and rebirth.
However, one has to be a believer to get into different levels of understanding, which is achieved through the power of faith (rather than knowledge??). Christianity is far more active, in the form of a personal relationship (with God), than other ...and more fatalistic faiths.
The Christian claim is: We can find God in Jesus Christ. God is Himself seeking us and we must ourselves seek God.
* Jesus said that we are all brothers and sisters of the human family .
* Jesus had a unique and eternal relationship with God.
He understood himself to be unique in his close relationship with the Father and that He was the only one who could reveal the Father (Matthew 27)
We may be ordinary; yet we live in the realm of the extra-ordinary, when He lives in us.
TRUST and SUBMIT (fully) to God.
Jesus had a great sense of purpose and fulfilment.
"It is finished."...
“Father, unto Thy hands I commit my spirit."
He was:
* bold,
yet
* unassuming and humble
* gentle
* unselfish
He demonstrated the greatest self mastery,
He had: the greatest self esteem ...
and yet he offered the greatest self sacrifice.
He practised what he preached... and lived his message:
justice, hope, love and peace to all.
In Him, the Lord became servant.
Jesus never lowered his standards, or modified his conditions to make his call more readily acceptable to the masses.
He was involved and demanded total commitment from his disciples.
God does his greatest works through His smallest people.
Through believing ( faith in Him) we may live.
He gives a new heart, a new nature, new birth, new creation.
He never lived as more than a man.
The God of a second chance.
*
Jesus offers HOPE to ALL!
GOD'S GRACE (Infinite) is a free gift... already paid for by the death of Jesus Christ
THE ESSENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Finally,
The message of Jesus is not irrelevant...even two thousand years after his death , as it transforms lives... even today!
