Life is energy in motion. We are constantly aware and “reading” the energy of the world around us. Each one of us has an internal guidance system. Similar to the GPS in transportation, it reads the energy around us and feeds back directions through our intuition . This is true for everyone. Some people are more in-tune and trust their intuition more than others.

When I ask audiences to place their hand on their gut, typically they place their hand on their abdomen, the area around the belly button. Consider that your bellybutton marks the place where the umbilical cord connected you to your mother. This connection was the source of nourishment as you were a developing embryo. Your intuition, your “gut instinct”, is the source of nourishment as you develop your relationship with the world. Intuition can be more of a “knowing” rather than a “feeling.”

More important than how you receive and communicate with your intuitive guidance system is the question, “how do you respond to it?” Do you trust your gut? Trust is the key word. Do you trust the information you receive from the source that nourishes you? When you trust your gut and follow its guidance, you will always be aligned with your core self, your Divine Self.

Think back to the last time you had a knowing about something, an action you could take or a choice you could make. Did you trust your gut or did you ask several people what “they thought you should do?” Were you surprised to discover they told you exactly what you already knew? Or did you discover that no one else’s opinion felt as strong as your gut feeling? Perhaps you went with someone else’s idea and found that you were not satisfied with the results and you ended up regretting that you followed someone else’s advice.

Or maybe you moved into your left brain and began processing the guidance. When you find yourself considering options, making the list of good and bad on a sheet of paper, thinking and rethinking the action over and over again, you are intellectualizing your choice. Realize that you have left your gut and gone to your head. You have stopped “feeling” what to do and have begun to “process” what to do.

When you learn to trust your gut, you realize that you have an internal source that will guide, direct, and nourish you. Building trust with your intuition is much like building trust with a best friend. It takes conscious effort to keep communications open, to listen, and to ask for assistance. Sometimes your guidance doesn’t make sense to you or your family or friends. Sometimes it doesn’t even make sense to your logical thinking. It is very important that you learn to trust your gut. The idea that Eckhart Tolle presents in his book “A New Earth: Awakening to your Life’s Purpose” is that when you “awaken” you know your True identity; you experience living your life from the inside out. In order to live an awakened life, you need to develop an intimate relationship with your intuition , and trust its guidance.
