By contrast, only 1 in 20 Americans was born as an empath. This shows up in an Aura Reading. Even an Aura Reading done of you in the womb would reveal it.

Being wired as an empath is like being wired as a Highly Sensitive Person. Either you’re an HSP or you’re not, and no amount of striving or denial will change that.

Empaths are less common than HSP’s: 1 in 20 vs. in 5.

If you were born as an empath, you aren’t just someone with a highly sensitive nervous system. You possess at least one significant, trainable gift for directly experiencing what it is like to be someone else. Many empaths have more than one gift.

And what kind of gift does an empath have? Does it mean that you feel everyone’s feelings? Maybe in science fiction. You can search on “empath” on the Internet and find a high proportion of the conversation is playful or fantasy-based.

Yet being an empath is a very serious gift. Unfortunately, being an empath can cause extremely serious problems, if you’re unskilled.

When, and if, you do become a skilled empath, that’s serious in a good way. You’ll find that you can do extremely, seriously, spectacularly magnificent service to others, including extraordinary healing in any type of healing modality in which you are otherwise trained and talented.

Being born as an empath is NOT just science fiction. Nor is it necessarily about emotional experience at all.

Your gift as an empath could be emotional, but it could also be physical, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, animal, crystal, plant, or mechanical, even molecular.

LEARN WHAT?

For Aura Reading, most people need to learn a technique to get you started. This is similar to regular literacy. Most of us need to learn abc’s, phonics; we require the services of a skilled teacher.

Please, never fear that you have a lesser degree of talent because you are not a precocious learner, comparable to someone who learned how to read before going to school. Being precocious at Aura Reading could be considered a completely different talent.

For Aura Reading, I supply the equivalent of phonics in my how-to book, “Aura Reading Through All Your Senses.” There are many other teachers of Aura Reading and they don’t all teach the same thing, any more than all school teachers have interchangeable classrooms; only you will know who is the right teacher for you.

Rest assured, you can definitely learn. I have taught many students who tried and failed with different teachers, sometimes with teachers who are way more famous than me. These students happened to need techniques of Aura Reading that weren’t all, or mostly, about “seeing the colours.”

What is worse than trying and “failing” at a “color by numbers” version of Aura Reading? It’s succeeding… when your talents are not mostly visual. (And, for the majority of people, your inborn talents are NOT mostly visual.) What happens then? You’re using only a tiny part of your personal gift set, yet believe you’re having the full experience.

I’ve had plenty of people tell me something like this, “I see purple in her aura .” Or “I see orbs.” Or “That person’s third chakra is closed.”

Well, so what? What else beyond, “I saw xyz.”

Nothing is wrong with seeing such things, only this could be 2% of what that same person could find, when doing a quality Aura Reading. Yet, with the color-by-number method, many people are content when they see anything. They figure they have won the prize:

"So been there, done that. I know all about Aura Reading. On to the next really useful, trendy skill. Maybe learning how to text message really, really fast?"

Such a waste! It’s a lack of learning , a lack of knowledge about the hugely detailed and practical information anyone can gain with skill at Aura Reading.

For instance, if a particular chakra is closed up, why? You could learn to read 50 different databanks in depth and detail, in that one chakra alone. You could learn about 50 different gifts of that person, specifically what they are. You could learn about the cause of “shut-down,” and maybe even be able to help.

It’s a great start for a beginner, telling that a particular chakra is shut down. Yet I wouldn’t really call that doing a full Aura Reading, would you?

NOT EXACTLY TEACHABLE

Can you learn to be an empath? Nope.

•You can learn skills of emotional intelligence , but that isn’t being an empath. It’s about naming.
•You can be trained socially to “act empathic” but that has nothing to do with the subtle experience of consciousness that every empath does right from birth.

As an empath, all you need is one gift and off you go. Yet that’s not necessarily pleasant. As an unskilled empath, you’re flying in spirit your whole life, faster than thought, and not usually conscious.

You may not be conscious at all that you are an empath, let alone that you have gathered information.

No learning is required for this, no more than having a reflex in your knee. Tap and swing. That automatic, only for an empath you are travelling quickly in your consciousness and picking up other people’s STUFF.

Can you learn to be a skilled empath? Now you’re talking! Definitely!

You can learn to turn your gift(s) OFF most of the time. Can anyone born as an empath learn how to turn your empath gift(s) off whenever you like? Absolootely-tootly! Again, you just need a teacher.

And does turning those empath gifts OFF involve giving yourself an invisible shield or avoiding psychic vampires and narcissists? Is being a skilled empath about “giving yourself strong boundaries” or any other social contrivances?

Only in the most superficial sense. Techniques of protection, avoidance, shielding, etc. don’t solve the very biggest problem of being an unskilled empath — taking on other people’s STUFF, taking it right into your aura .

Of course, a quality Aura Reading shows if this happens. That’s right, an Aura Reading can not only show if you are an empath. It can show if you are a skilled empath or merely talented and constantly taking other people’s STUFF into your aura .

Once you have learned the set of skills where you gain control over your gift(s) as a skilled empath, it is ethical for me to teach you techniques to do Empath-Merge, a.k.a. turning your gift(s) ON. Again, in my opinion, this is a specific set of skills, one technique at a time. And speaking of techniques…..

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH AURA READING OR EMPATH-MERGE?

Can you do a quality Aura Reading from a regular photograph? Sure, once you learn an effective technique.

Can you do an Empath-Merge from a regular photograph? Sure, once you learn an effective technique for that! Also, assuming that you are an empath.

Often in this blog, I choose to do only an Aura Reading, not an Empath-Merge. It’s really smart to always start with an Aura Reading, as a reasonable precaution into merging into someone really unpleasant.

Even though good solid technique as an Empath will still protect you against taking on the person’s stuff, it can be unpleasant to do an Empath-Merge on certain people. If you wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing a conversation, a hug or a meal, with Mr. X, you most definitely don’t want to do an Empath-Merge with him either.

HOW IT FEELS ON THE INSIDE

The biggest differences between doing an Aura Reading or Empath-Merge involve what it feels like for you, the explorer of Deeper Perception.

Information with Aura Reading comes at a distance. Think of reading a cereal box, using regular literacy. How involved must you become?

Information with an Empath-Merge is deeply personal. Even though you are not taking on the person’s STUFF, this is a depth experience of oneness.

A skilled empath will be protected, undergoing such an experience. Still, you won’t go there lightly.That’s why I always start by doing an Aura Reading. Only if I know it will be safe/pleasant/interesting and/or inspiring, will I use that more personal skill set.

STAY OPEN TO THIS POSSIBILITY

You may not be sure that you’re an empath, yet you may well be. Please remember that being an empath is NOT necessarily about feeling other people’s feelings.

You may even be a very talented empath without having a clue. This fact was brought home to me this weekend, when I taught my Empath Empowerment Intensive.

One student, “Jessica,” expressed interest in taking the workshop but wasn’t very clear about whether or not she even was an empath. I read her aura as part of the application process and was clear that she was.

Jessica’s socialization in her family, as well as her career, had discouraged any thought that she might be an empath. Meeting her, based on speech and behavior , you wouldn’t have guessed what an Aura Reading showed. Jessica couldn’t have been less mushy and gushy in her personality, but she still was a talented empath.

By the last evening meeting, students talked about what they gained from the Intensive. Jessica confessed that she really hadn’t believed that she was an empath. By graduation time, she knew that she was. She knew how to use her Space Dial. She owned skills about how to wake up from the inside, the very best way to protect yourself from taking on other people’s stuff as an empath.

Jessica also learned how to do an empath-merge. She did brilliantly at it.

I know, because one of the people she read with uncanny accuracy, doing an empath-merge, was me!
