Safety at Your Fingertips

I have been using laptops and others gadgets for years, but it was just recently that I discovered how easier securing me and my family ’s safety would be through such. From transportation to communication, innovations were made to make us virtually near anything at any time. Now, they are continually being developed to help us secure ourselves and our loved ones as well with just the touch of our fingertip.

We already have navigation-ready cars, portable phones easily squeezed into pockets, alarm systems making noise for establishments, and of course, more advanced softwares and over a hundred of it to choose from. These include further innovations through technological systems for securing banks, establishments, homes and stored information. The possibilities just seem endless with these, and all of it are being made accessible through smartphones.

Not only will you find applications useful for you and your family ’s safety through getting weather, traffic and vehicular hazard updates and getting easy contact to emergency lines. Now, you can also track the route of the cab driver who fetched you or your family . Know their exact locations and receive an immediate SOS when needed. You can also secure banking transactions and get immediate notifications for any changes made on your financial and online accounts through your devices, anytime and anywhere.

Have a Smart Home with Your Smartphone

How often do you use your phone? According to The Economist , this generation has paved the way for a planet of the phones. Half of the adult population of the world own a smartphone and by 2020, 80% will own one. Also 80% of the current population say that they use their smartphones for checking messages, news, and other services within 15 minutes of getting up. Do you know that you can actually do more than that?

With the use of a smartphone today, you can keep a constant look out for what is happening inside your home. Some burglars can be wise enough to override your security system, but you can be wiser than they are with your smartphone home security apps. From having a 24/7 home security camera which you can now personalize to get real-time notifications when actual thieves crash through your gates. When you know how to  manage home security through your smartphone , you can spare those unnecessary worries when leaving town.

No Loss with Low Cost

Technology can be costly, but with the fast-paced and dangerous times, they have become a need for us. In fact, installing security measures and different appliances might be too much for our pockets a few years back. I wouldn’t even be thinking of such if it weren’t a need for today’s crime rate. In addition to that, the cost doesn’t end at buying the product. Most appliances need energy consumption and when we forget to unplug one, it contributes to our monthly electric bills. However, do you know that through technology you can actually cut back your proceeding costs? Yes, through your smartphone, you can easily lower your costs even when you are far from home. This is where your smartphone meets your smart home once again.

Given the amount of gadgets you have at home coupled with a busy schedule, you may forget to turn off the lights or turn on your alarm system upon leaving. This is when you may find home automation useful. Not only can you control and look after your house security through your smartphone, but you can also manage your electrical consumption through  direct control to your lights and other appliances . It is like hitting two birds in one stone, or one cost!

Call for Backup

One of the recent discoveries I have had (also the coolest to date) was that smartphones can now be used to send “encrypted” SOS messages without intruders knowing that you have sent them already. If you are using iOS, you can ask Siri to “charge my phone to one hundred percent” and it will immediately call the cops. In other operating systems used in smartphones, there are applications that allow you to send an SOS message through a press of the home button, then everyone you have added to the list will receive the notification with a corresponding photo of your situation and location. So next time, even if your smartphone is at a distance from you, you can still call the police during an emergency situation or tell everyone that you need help immediately.

In the use of any advancement, you should remember that it is still your prerogative whether to maximize its potential or just settle for the usual things it can do. Smartphones were first developed for convenience, but as the need arose, it is continually improved to fit lifestyles of people everywhere. In my end, I’d like to use my smartphone to assist me in my profession, but I never knew I can do so much more with it, especially with securing me and family’s safety.

Considering the home security tips outlined above will be up to you, but they will be very useful especially with a fast-paced generation and loads of traffic that will hinder you from going places at times of need. With your smartphone interlaced with safety measures for real-time situations, you can protect yourself and your family by being one step ahead of any thief with your smart home security or by getting foresight's on circumstances on your daily route through updates. Be a smart use of your smartphone.
