Professional Development (PD) in the 21st century is important for the growth and development of contemporary educators. Today’s educational realm is full of multiple perspectives, technologies, and opportunities for learners. The foremost goal of professional development for educators is to go beyond maintenance and create sustainability and professional longevity

Similarly, the corporate world is also in the phase of technological modernization. Millennials are no longer plagued by the same challenges as their parents were: having to stick to one career path and commit a lifetime to one job. But due to the tough job market, global competition, and a modern-world economy, having a range of experiences and careers is considered favorable. Considering the fact that the world has become extremely fast-paced, one can run a startup, have a job, work remotely and turn it all in their favor.

Having multiple careers at once means managing one or two professions at one time. People with multiple careers usually elect to pursue complementary careers, like actors who also direct movies, or authors who also write songs. Although complementary careers can be easier to manage, some choose to work on their passions outside of a stable vocation. Yves Plantin is a prime example of such an individual.

Born on July 21, 1938, in Paris, France, Yves started his career as an art dealer, before deciding to change his lifestyle by embracing the countryside. Yves worked as an art dealer for more than twenty years, specializing in the period 1890-1930. He sold his exceptional work to numerous private and public collections, including the New York Metropolitan Museum, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Mesnil Houston Foundation, the Musee d’Orsay Paris, and many French and European museums. It was his great zeal and passion that enabled him receive the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Minister of Culture.

Plantin’s interest in the history of nonconformist art was first piqued at the School of Fine Arts, in the architecture department, in the studio of Louis Arretche. His interest and curiosity led him to Art Nouveau, which at that time was completely unknown. After discovering that the office of Guimard, a prominent figure of the Art Nouveau style, was part of the collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, in 1960, Plantin and Alain Blondel linked with the museum, which eventually resulted in an exhibition that served as the first retrospective of Guimard’s work. Plantin and Blondel remained close to one another throughout their careers. One could always see their names at the bottom of pieces published in L’Estampille, L’Œil, or L’Architectured’Aujourd’hui. Their association with the creation of the Galerie du Luxembourg in 1970 was one of their first exhibitions that was titled as Hector Guimard/Fontes Artistiques.

After having a stellar journey, Plantin decided to move to the countryside and pursue his passion for horse breeding. His affection for horses began in 1987 when he migrated to Ginals to breed purebred Arabian horses. Sisinius was the name of his first Arabian racehorse who defeated Dormane twice in 1987. From 1994 to 1998, Plantin was the chairman of the ECAHO Race Commission. He was the founder and first chairman of IFAHR from 1999 to 2002 and later served as a member of the Executive Committee of IFAHR from 2002 to 2017.

Plantin’s other accomplishments include improving racing standards, fostering international competitiveness, and facilitating the worldwide trade of horses and information. He received recognition for defending the integrity of racing through suitable rules for the acceptance of purebred Arabian horses in horse racing which has been one of the longest battles in time.

After achieving his goals, Plantin died on July 11, 2022. Considering his lifelong journey, people can witness the close relationship between passion and success. His hard work proved that if people are passionate about their goals, nothing can stop them.
