Digital transformation is changing the world - and the economy. It covers all industries and areas, changes ideas, products, distribution channels, types of communication and ways of working. Fast Internet is therefore an essential location factor - this is a difficult situation for companies, cities and municipalities that do not have access to it.

Industry 4.0 and Big Data
Two technological developments are shaping the digitization of the economy particularly strongly. One of them is intelligent, networked production, also known as Industry 4.0: people, machines, logistics, systems and products are digitally connected. They communicate and cooperate directly and constantly with each other, at any time during production. This comprehensive networking involves all phases in the life cycle of a product. It ranges from brainstorming, development, manufacturing, sales, care and maintenance to final recycling.

The second revolutionary development is called Big Data. These are particularly large, complex, fast and varied amounts of data, which can no longer be mastered with the conventional methods of data utilization. You need high-speed networks, because it involves gigantic mountains of data, terabytes or petabytes of measurement data, comprehensive digital predictive models, analyzes every second, as well as a variety of data sources and formats. In addition, big data is a collective term for technologies that enable and drive the digital transformation in society and the economy in the first place.

Digitization as a competitive advantage
Both developments - Industry 4.0 and Big Data - call for far-reaching structural changes in companies. Today, more than 20 billion devices and machines are networked via the Internet. Forecasts assume that this number will rise to half a trillion by 2030. Digital skills, technologies and networks are therefore a crucial competitive factor across all industries and business sectors. Digitization is calling for sporting goods manufacturers as well as architects or airlines, as well as for product development as well as customer service and the recruiting of new workers. Companies of all sizes have no choice but to react to the revolutionary technological developments if they want to survive in the increasingly digitized world.

Broadband Expansion Process
The IT industry association Bitkom and its managing director Bernhard Rohleder also see this as follows: "The aim must be to become a person who has been driven by digital transformation ." A study by the association has found that in Germany, two-thirds of all retailers see digitization as an opportunity But at the same time, 77 percent perceive themselves as digital laggards. This has different causes - one of them is missing broadband connections, especially in rural areas. Wherever they do not exist, companies are becoming detached from digital transformation and can neither shape nor react. Lack of high-speed networks thus becomes a risk for entire sites. Cities, communities and commercial areas without broadband connections run the risk of missing out on the rapid digital changes.

Many companies have long recognized the signs of time and are looking for ways to make the Internet fast. At the same time they have to calculate the investments needed to keep profits high.

Like it or not fast internet is becoming one of basic human needs for any age. Having fast internet connection will improve life qualities, provided you use it in moderation.
