How many times in life, or even in one day, do we miss out on what we should be doing? How many times do we avoid the things we are supposed to do for God? How many times do we remain stagnant when we should be moving forward? Looking back on yesterday, what things did we avoid just because we didn’t feel like doing them? What things are we dreading today and trying to figure out if we can put them off until tomorrow?

Don’t deny it. We all do it. We all put things off. We all try to do what we would rather be doing instead of what we should be doing. We are all guilty. But let’s think for a moment how much we do put off. Let’s thing for a moment what doesn’t get done because of our choices. Let’s think for a moment about how much is lost because we just decide to put things off one more day.

We can’t really know what would have happened if we did what we were supposed to do yesterday. We can’t really know if someone who we should have spent more time with would have taken different actions if we would have given them five more minutes when they needed to talk with us. We can’t know if we would have stopped what we were doing and listened to their problem, it would have been solved.

If we decide to do our own thing rather than God’s will, we won’t really know what plans He has for us and for others. All we can know is that He was ready to use us but we decided to look the other way. We can know He wanted us to approach someone but we chose to walk in the other direction. We can know He wanted us to speak to others or give them an encouraging word but we decided to totally ignore them and do our own thing.

Hebrews 10:35-36 “So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.”

We know God wants to use us in situations that are not always the best situations for us. We will be busy when God asks us to go and help someone. We will be tired when He asks us to get up and do something for Him. We will be struggling with our own problems when God requests we get out of our own sorrow and help someone who is suffering more. However, we need to put aside our feelings and decide to patiently endure and continue to do God’s will.

It may never be the right time, in our minds, to do what we are supposed to do for God. We may never feel the best and be motivated just before God calls us to do His work. We won’t always feel like doing something for God when He puts the opportunity before us. However, it is our responsibility to listen to what God tells us and take action when He calls us. If we choose to ignore His requests, we won’t make a difference.

Colossians 4:5 “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.”
