“You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.”C.S. Lewis reminds in this simple yet powerful quote who we truly are.
As I sit here in sunny, warm Puerto Rico I am transported to a place far more beautiful, warm, and meaningful, my soul.
My surroundings include a sparkling water with lime filling my glass, the roaring crystal blue ocean to my left, a beautiful white flowing curtain that is concealing a luminous pool to my right. Ceiling fans and bamboo umbrellas blowing in the cool ocean breeze complete the physical reality of today’s existence.
In the non physical realm I am faced with thoughts of my true existence. My personal truth is I do not need to be transported anywhere to look within, but it sure does come easier when I am peering into one of Gods greatest creations. Like the ocean our souls are deep and full of unknown treasures if only we are open to going deep enough to unearth them. Just as we must approach the ocean with respect and reverence we must also honor our souls with the same level of respect and honor.
For some the depth of the soul can be a terrifying place. That is the place where there is no hiding; there is no pretending, no conning and no room for falsehoods. The depth of the soul is the place where the Source of all life resides. The depth of our being is the only place that we can go that is truly safe and sacred; the place where we are accepted for who we are not what we have. Unconditional love resides in the soul along with never ending patience and tolerance.
Too often we fall short and blindly dive within and are left feeling emptier than when we began the exploration. Could it be that we are blinded by our expectations and worldly views? If we truly look within it must be with an open mind and a sense of mystery that says we are truly curious to know every fiber of ourselves, not just the parts that we like or the parts that society accepts and people compliment us on; but also the parts that are hidden beneath the dust and rubble of our past.
It is necessary to clean the soul and purge that which no longer serves us. Entering the soul and brushing away the dust and accepting all parts of us is the only way to experience inner peace . Inner peace being that sense of calmness, that knowing that everything is just as it should be. We are able to release our need to control situations and we embrace flexibility to become like the palm tree in the hurricane… unbreakable.
If only just for today I encourage you to go into the ocean of your soul and search for the buried treasure that is you. I promise that you will not be disappointed with the journey and who knows what you will find there. I encourage you to embrace the mystery accept the gifts of the unknown.
Many Blessings,
