Facing the winds:

When strong winds hit a construction site, there are several areas that get affected. The scaffolding, raw material, gutters, pipes, roof, fences, etc. and while all of these can be dangerous to the workers especially when strong winds blow off such stuff, there is the need to take necessary precautions that would prevent damage to a certain extent. It is then when shade cloths come to use to protect semi-built structures from getting damaged. It is also advised to slew the cranes present at the site and to remove any attachments such as unsuspended load carrier or load chains which may fall off and cause accidents to those underneath. Construction sites that have loose sand, gravel, stone chips, cement, etc. need protection as flying objects can cause damage to glass structures or probably the existing buildings in the neighbourhood.  

Preparing for the rain:

Excessive rain can drain off loose raw materials such as sand, cement, etc. and that is the reason where you need to lift the storage area above the ground. A construction site often leaves puddles and pools especially when the ground isn’t levelled. To avoid accidents, it is often advised that labourers shouldn’t access these puddle areas after it has rained until it dries up. There is also the need to create good quality drainage just so that construction material doesn’t get stuck and there is easy drainage of water that the storm brings along. If there is a forecast of a storm, the need to put up earth banks is essential that prevents the collapse of the walls that have been recently constructed.      

Avoiding the risk from chemicals:

When it concerns construction sites, there are numerous chemical components that are put to use. Oils, paints, thinners, solvents, varniashes, etc., should be stored in a dry and safe place just so that there is no spillage as well as run-off when the site is hit by rainwater. Even when the necessary care is taken to prevent such accidents, there is always the need to inspect the area once the storm is gone.
