Wow! 2012.
I feel like I’ve lived a year already in only two months. And from what I’m hearing, I’m not the only one. This year is turning out to be vibrant, satisfying and full of change.
We’re starting a family in a couple of months and have bought a new home. I’ve written and submitted a novel and also created some new product. It’s all very exciting and abundant.
How busy is your year? Are you experiencing a lot of new things at the moment?
Life can be eventful, but the question often is: how to remain calm with so much happening around you, with the pressing need to meet ongoing commitments and everyday obligations, despite all the new challenges arising?
Here are some tips to stay present and enjoy the process of life:
1. Breathe deeply and regularly: This slows you down and grounds you again. If I haven’t done this during the day, I make a point of breathing slowly and deeply before falling asleep. This way I return to my body.
2. Music: I’m listening to a lot of familiar, happy-making music. I lose myself in the lyrics and music when driving, singing out loud much to the amusement of fellow travellers.
3. Journaling: These regular meetings with myself is where I find ‘me’ again. I ground myself and discover what’s happening inside me – which is more important than what happens outside me. My journaling can be from one sentence on one day to twenty pages the next. It’s not what I’ve written that matters, it’s the fact THAT I’ve written.
4. Gratitude: This year is one of gratitude for me; one of large dreams finally coming true and of many years of effort being rewarded. But I haven’t lost sight of the magic that that surrounds it all for which I’m grateful.
5. Actioning: This is an important concept that works in tandem to the other 4 points. You can create nothing without actioning it first. Think your thoughts, change them if necessary and then engage with your life. Whatever action you take, connect with your inner guidance first and then notice and appreciate any synchronicities and opportunities that arise. You will then know what to do, but remember that doing is part of the processing to getting what you want. Actively participate and create.
If you remain (1) present, (2) committed to yourself and (3) engage continually with your life – you’ll feel fulfilled and successful regardless of direction or outcome.
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children...to leave the world a better place...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”Ralph Waldo Emerson
