What will you make of this year? What is the energy that you are willing to let go of? What successes are you opening the door for?

Once again we come around the the Chinese New Year. One of the great things I love about this celebration, is how much they incorporate in it. It is not a mere day or two; but a couple of weeks that are based on the beautiful lunar and mother feminine influence of the universe.

Each day of this celebration there is an array of wonderful traditions and practices that range everywhere from having a reunion dinner to connect with those that have gone before to lanterns and firecrackers to bring in blessings. They also do what I would refer to as a conscious Spring Cleaning. Certainly many of us do a Spring Cleaning to freshen up not only the energy if the house, but to physically allow fresh energy through cleaning and preparing to receive fresh air after being closed up or shut in all Winter.

In the Chinese traditions they literally visualize and do practices that are about sweeping out the old energy, the negative energy, that which has grown stagnant and disruptive. They then make great preparations to invite in wondrous blessings and opportunities. They often times wear red or decorate around doorways or windows with red to liven things up and to offer protection for successes and blessings on their way in. Just imagine if we did all areas of our life and all season with such consciousness.

This year the Chinese New Year welcomes in the year of the Fire Monkey. This can relate to all kinds of things from opening the door to more play, fun, passion , seduction, love, romance, pranks and jokes, as well as big dreams. Now in viewing some of the codes on this we find a natural flow of energy - since the Chinese New Year energy is all about working from wisdom and creating love, peace , and harmony. When I consider this it is no wonder that Feng Shui practices may be a big part of these celebrations.

Coming from a Druidic Background this time of year was always about a great awakening, the beginning of the ascent of feminine presence on the Earth, lighting candles to guide one towards love and joyful celebrations of life. It was the time of year that brought promise of flourishing and abundant life; and the preparation for activity and being active and present in the world, playing and having fun. Personally, I love traditions, celebrations, and honoring the turning of the seasonal year. At each of the turning points, I feel energized and alive in incredible ways.
