One of the most important and profitable aspect of chanting ‘om’ is, that even if you do not know meditation methods , it still gives you the same results. For chanting ‘om’, it is not necessary to learn it from a teacher, as compared to meditation. Nor do you need to follow a specific routine as you do for practicing daily affirmations. Composition of ‘aum’/’om’

‘om’ is the sound or a hum of the celestial energy itself. ‘Om’ is actually a combination of two vowels, ‘A’, ‘u’ and a letter ‘m’. The combination of all these three letters in a series gives the sound ‘om’. It is considered the first sound of the universe. The first two vowels are pronounced with the exhalation of the breath and the mouth open or partially open. And the pronunciation of the last letter, ‘m’, naturally closes the mouth. This is the most powerful breath- the breath of ‘aum’.

How chanting of ‘om’ works on mind and body

As seen earlier, ‘om’ is a fusion of a, u, and m. As you chant ‘om’, and vowel ‘a’ generate vibrations in the spinal column. All the functions done by the spinal cord will become efficient and enhanced. The second vowel ‘u’ generates vibrations in the throat. This activates the thyroid gland and also the throat chakra. And the last letter, ‘m’ targets the brain. This also activates the crown chakra and increases the efficiency of the functioning of the brain. Obviously when the brain is affected in a positive manner, then the benefits will come in the form of increased concentration, alleviating anxiety and worries and an affirmative outlook toward life in general. It can be viewed as a form of daily affirmation , only much more powerful.
