Self Empowerment by recognizing and avoiding negative body language signal
Our body language mystically reveals far more information about our feeling than it is possible to convey verbally through conversation. All of the physical gestures we make are subconsciously interpreted by others and this can benefit or work against us depending on the kind of body language signal we are transmitting to them. Some gestures cast a positive message, while others do nothing but send a negative signal. Let’s look at some of the common ones, recognize and avoid them.

1. Checking the time

Your watch might be nice but never look at your time during a conversation, because it gives a strong sign of boredom and lack of interest.

2. Leaning away from someone

Take note that leaning towards a person show your interest in her or the topic, while leaning away display a sign of boredom.

3. Crossing arms posture

It displays a sign arrogance and defensive action. Always try to keep your arms open at your side

4. Finger or toe tapping

It just indicates impatience, boredom or stress. If you are doing this action, you are giving out a signal of “Can’t you speak faster and end the conversation?”

5. Keep eye contact

During a conversation, always keep eye contact and never give people the impression that you are avoiding them. Try to look into the other party’s eye when you are listening, greeting or talking to them and NEVER stare.

6. Handshake does matter

Remember the handshake must be firm that display confidence, never give a weak one.

7. Leave the things alone in your pocket

Never play with the things in your pocket like coins or keys which can cause distraction to the other party.

8. Fake smile

Never give a fake smile, just smile naturally. But if you are a person that does not know how to smile, practice it. Fake smile will give people an impression of hypocritical and view you as an untrustworthy person

9. Speak with confidence

Speak clearly and don’t mumble as it shows lack of self confidence and avoiding to be heard.

10. Fidgeting

Moving or swaying your body un-necessarily will show that you are un-prepared and nervous. Also never fidget with objects like pen in your hand as it cause distraction.

11. Standing too close

Always keep a distance from the other party personal space, if you are standing too close, the other party might feel uncomfortable and threatened.

In conclusion, be careful of the body language signal being transmitted.
