The implementation of lockdown in almost all the countries of the world due to the global pandemic COVID-19 not only restricted the economical growth of the countries but also interrupted lots of mandatory activities that needed to be done during the months when the situation of lockdown existed. MOT was one such activity that was to be performed for most of the vehicles between this period, however, understanding the severity of the matter the governments of the different countries extended the last dates of the services.

Interestingly, the transport department of the United Kingdom also did the same for vehicles whose MOT was due during the months of lockdown. According to reports, the government had extended the dates of the MOT test to six months for the vehicles who had to undergo the said test between March 30, 2020, and July 31, 2020.

But, now with the process of relaxation being initiated in all the regions of the world following the strict guidelines issued by the government the life is returning to the normalcy and so is the traffic on the roads. Keeping this factor in concern the Ministry of Transportation in the United Kingdom has reinstated the mandatory of MOT from August 1, 2020, and has instructed all the registered MOT Cannock and across the country to make the necessary arrangements for conducting the test according to the government instructions.

Who is going to be affected after removal of exemption in dates of MOT from August 1, 2020: If you are the resident of England, Wales or Scotland, and the MOT of your vehicle is due on August 1, 2020, or after it, then you will be required to undergo the test as you would have done according to the laws if your MOT test was due before March 30, 2020. Anyhow if the MOT date of your vehicle was due from March 30, 2020, to July 31, 2020, then you will be exempted from the test for six months that is until January 30, 2020. This condition applies to renewals of vehicle registration and also on the MOT.

According to the sources of the government, almost all the garages in the entire country have now resumed their duties and therefore there are chances of a surge in the bookings due to which the vehicle owners might face a problem. Keeping this fact in concern the government is encouraging the vehicle owners to book the MOT in advance instead of visiting the garage and asking for the test. The same thoughts are also shared by most of the garage owners in the country, however, they are hopeful for an improvement in the situation as the time passes.

The necessity of MOT: Having the MOT certificate ensures that your vehicle is suitable for driving/riding on the road. Moving ahead it also assures that your vehicle is in good condition. In the absence of an MOT certificate, you might be fined or even your license may be canceled if you are found with the vehicle which is three years old and has not undergone the MOT test on its due date.

It would be interesting to know that the department of transport also sends reminders to the vehicle owners through emails and text messages a month before the due date.
