In today's highly technological and global society, practically everyone uses e-mail. For some, particularly those in many of today's businesses, it is practically essential to the bottom line - profits. In these businesses, it has become critical to check your e-mail ten or more times a day, and/or get an audible notice every time a new e-mail arrives. While for others, it is a great and economical way to communicate. So much so is the case that most people get their email on their cell phones. Most people, if not all, will tell you that the one common "down side" of e-mail is that we often get to many of them.

This is something of critical importance to the network marketer. Just to blindly send a direct e-mail to people you do not know to promote your business, product or service is illegal and is known as spamming. More accurately and simply put, spam is the sending of unsolicited messages to practically anyone. Spam comes in many media formats, i.e., social media, junk faxes, instant messaging, blogs and web search engines to name a few. The most recognizable form of spam is direct e-mail spam. As a tool, e-mail marketing is critical to the success of the network marketer and must be conducted in a manner that shows a very high level of integrity- NO SPAM. If you adhere to this, you'll be seen as an expert in your niche and as one who is serious about their business.

Before you set up your direct e-mail campaign, it is important to note that there are hundreds of thousands of network marketers out there who want to know about your business. As such there are many websites that cater to this population. These sites offer you free membership and the ability to get access to their e-mail lists free of charge just for visiting other marketer's websites. You earn points for every site you review within a specified time limit - usually 20-30 seconds. Each point is equivalent to one e-mail that you can send. Some sites set a daily limit, while others let you earn as many credits as you like, whenever you like. Usually, as a free member, you may send e-mails every 6 or 7 days. But you can become a paid member and send e-mails much more frequently.

Another way to gain e-mail marketing success is to build a list of people who are looking to engage in successful business ventures and are willing to accept e-mail from you with a marketing message. This is your Opt-in List. Some of these marketers may already be in business but are looking for something else or they may be looking to start their own business for the very first time. Either way, they will be receptive of your offers. Through this process, you will likely set relationships that are much more long term.

Now, as you begin to set up your e-mail campaigns, here are the 3 KEY ELEMENTS that must be followed if you are to become successful.

1. Identify your Goals and the Objectives that will help you achieve them. Keep in mind that your objectives are the steps you take to reach your goals. There should be goals for all aspects of your business. Answering the following questions will help you establish your goals:

a. what do you want goals of your campaign to achieve?

b. what are the goals of your website - traffic, sales, training/education, self growth, etc?

c. do you need to send promotional e-mails, newsletters, sales letters, etc.?

d. what do you want your subscribers to do (complete a survey for more information, make a purchase or download a document)?

e. what are your key performance indicators, i.e. - how many people actually open your e-mails? how many people visit your website? how many e-mails are forwarded? what is the ratio of your investment to your profit?

2. Create Your E-mail Lists. This is where you begin to create your Opt-in List as it is described above. This attribute is critical to the success of your business and the effectiveness of your direct e-mail marketing campaigns. It is important to mention again that you could do irreparable harm to your business and reputation by sending unsolicited e-mails to subscribers. Permission must be acquired from everyone who receives e-mails from you. Opt-in Lists are ineffective if they are not targeted toward specific subscribers. When creating your Opt-in List, an email address is usually sufficient. However, additional information such as first name, surname, title, sex, age, date permission was granted, date of birth and phone number can be of tremendous value when gathering data to determine the effectiveness of your direct e-mail campaigns. Getting at least a first name will enable you to personalize your e-mails. Everyone loves to be called by their name, to do otherwise would be disingenuous. Your e-mail lists will give you the following capabilities:

a. to disseminate information to an expansive range of potential subscribers at little or no cost.

b. short delivery time

c. quick method to track the effectiveness of your campaign

d. awareness of the go green movement by operating an environmentally friendly business

e. quick delivery time to potential customers/subscribers

f. acquire repeat customers/subscribers

These are but a few of the many benefits of direct e-mail marketing. As you continue your campaigns, you will realize many more.

3. Create The Contents Of The E-Mail And in Which Format It Is To Be Viewed. You can send e-mails in either of two formats. They are text and HTML. A text e-mail is just that, text only - there is nothing to it but letters and words. It usually contains a heading, a subject, a greeting, a message and a closing.HTML on the other hand contains it all - it gives you the ability to use text, images, different fonts, links, videos and anything else you'd like to put in your e-mail. An effective HTML e-mail should contain the following:

a.subject line and header that generate enough curiosity to cause the recipient to want to read the e-mail,

b. a greeting that is personal - exciting - motivating - stimulating.

c. body with content that is concise, educational, informative and filled with value.

d. a footer that contains your contact information and

e. an unsubscribe link that gives your recipient the ability to Opt-Out.

Once you've satisfied these 3 Key Elements, you are now ready to send your e-mails.

If done properly direct e-mail marketing will give you the ability expose your business to people who want to see what you have to offer. There are many people out there that are hurting financially and looking for a better way to support their families. Through your efforts, you can give people hope and a possible way to ease their pain and support their families.
