Stress and anxiety , no matter whether induced by external events or by your own thoughts, actually kills neurons and prohibit the creation of new ones. For example chronic stress is the opposite of exercise as it will prevent the creation of new neurons.

Up until your early teens various windows of opportunity will have opened when you could have most easily learned such things as languages, writing, math, music and so on. But that doesn’t mean it is too late, you can and should continue and build your brain and expand your mind. Once neurons are created they stay in your brain just how long they survives is up to you depending how you decide to use them. There are many ways of maintaining a healthy brain.
