The catering and cooking culture in Italy is as old as Italy itself is. According to the researchers, some of the Italian food recipes have roots even from pre-Italian era and that’s the reason why Italian foods and catering culture is so diverse and well-known. Even if you have just Italian pasta, you can go straight for two years without a problem because there are more than six hundred and fifty varying types of Italian pasta. You must have heard about a saying, “Quantity disturbs quality!” Well it’s not really true in case of Italian food. No matter how much variety there is, every single dish will be a finger-licking impact on you.

History of Italian Foods:

The history of Italian foods and dishes starts back from 4th Century B.C. Since then, countless ups and downs, such as, fall of the Roman Empire, political instability, travelers, conquerors, neighboring colonies etc. have highly diversified the food culture of the present Italy. The fall of the Roman Empire was a real great breakthrough for Italian foods. After the empire broke, people fell out, and a lot of new experiments were made in food like all other disciplines of life. Different tryouts were made on bread and pasta especially. After the fall of empire, regions were separated and each region came with its specialty, such as, Northern Italy was famous for its rissotos, Central Italy for tortellini and southern part came up with its delicious pizza recipes .

Antipasto means in English, “before serving the meal” so it is an appetizer. Here are some of the traditional dishes that can be served as Antipasto:

Dolce :    Dolce means, “Sweet” in English. Meal is finished with some sweet-dish – Dolce. It can be some fruit, cakes, biscotti, or a fruit pie.
