1. Be sure to show your prospect that you are on their side, show them that you really do care about their needs and how you can help them.

What you really should do is ask questions about them, get to know them and above all be genuinely interested in whatever they have to say, please don't fake it because it will stand out a mile.

2. Make sure you really listen, and I mean really listen to what your prospect has to say, remember that the more you talk means there is less time to actually close the sale, you will make far more progress by listening more and talking less. The only talking you should be doing is asking questions. Be sure that when your prospect answers these questions that you truly listen and remember the more you talk the less time you will have to listen, and the less sales you will make. It is a well known fact that people love to talk about themselves and when you show that you are really interested in what they have to say they will start to trust you.

This trust will go along way to building a relationship with your customer which could go on for many years.

3.Try and discover a subject that you are both interested in, something that when you talk about it you will feel a bond forming between the two of you. This will prove to the prospect that you are equal to each other, he is not better than you and visa versa but most of all, that you are not better than them in any way. You will find that if you can find a common interest they will relate to you in a far more positive way.

Even if you can't find anything obvious that you have in common there will always be something that can strengthen the bond between you.

4. Always try and understand where the prospect is coming from. Take as much time as is needed to understand their goals and aspirations and work out between you how you can get there, solving any potential problems along the way. Ask many questions as you go along and listen carefully to any response they give you.

Your end goal is to discover their goals and show them the opportunity you have to offer them.
