Body mass index (BMI), is assessment of person’s body fat based on his or her height and weight. This can be efficiently calculated with the help of the BMI chart which helps to sustain BMI as a part of weight & height by application of contour lines for a variety of values of BMI.

In order to determine BMI, the only measurements you need are a person's height and weight. For most people, a BMI in the range of 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy. It is calculated the same way for adults and children, but the basis for interpreting the results are different. Body fat can be assessed using body mass index. BMI relates closely to direct measures of body fat in most people.

BMI is most simple method of evaluation for weight categories that may lead to obesity related health problems.

BMI is calculated in similar fashion for adults and children. The formula to calculate BMI is (in kg/m2) = mass (in kgs) / (height in meters).

People who are overweight or obese have a greater possibility of developing many diseases including High blood pressure, commonly known as hypertension, High cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes ,Heart disease, Stroke, Certain adverse cancers, Sleep apnea, Osteoarthritis, Gallbladder disease, Fatty liver disease. Even a small weight loss (just 10 percent of your existing weight) will help to lower your risk of developing these diseases.

Correlation between BMI and woman’s health.

A woman who has a BMI which ranges from 18 to 25 kg/m2 should be taken as a woman with a healthy BMI. a woman whose body mass index reaches 25 kg/m2 is thought as obese.

Women whose BMI is 30kg/m2 are over obese. In order to get back to normal, it is recommended to increase the consumption of water, eat in the right amounts and follow a daily workout regime. For women who have a BMI below 18kg are called as underweight.

Obesity has been linked with increased risk of postmenopausal breast cancer. In postmenopausal women, estrogen produced in adipose tissue, or body fat, may promote breast cell proliferation & rises the negative impact.

All adults below 65 should inculcate 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most, preferably all days of week like brisk walking , cycling or gardening. This will help the body to burn fat as a fuel and increasing your energy expenditure as well as improving the general health. Such rigorous activities help to rejuvenate the cells & activate energy to undergo strenuous tasks.
