I often encourage my clients to ask themselves the question “where am I stuck?”For many entrepreneurs, the answer can be as simple as ……..’behind my computer’. For others, it can be much more intense and answers can range from finances to networking to finding new clients.

I had the opportunity, last week, to hide behind many excuses. I was faced (graced, actually) with the invitation to appear on TV in Toronto, to start work with my new (phenomenal) business coach and to participate in meetings (in Washington, DC) with my new master mind group.

I could have said NO to all of those opportunities and stayed stuck in my business. Some of the thoughts going through my head were (and I’m serious about these – I’m human, too, you know!):

1. I’m not comfortable driving around Toronto……..what if I get lost? What if I’m late? What if I get a brain cramp when I am being interviewed and forget my key points? What if, what if, what if……….
2. I had been to my hairdresser a few days earlier and was not that impressed with my hair cut, quite frankly. (Why do they ALWAYS want to cut your hair right down to the scalp????????)
3. And because my hair was so short, I was concerned that my face would look fatter (which it does on TV to begin with, LOL!)
And what if………when I got to Washington, DC to meet with my fellow master minders, 4. I didn’t fit in? I heard that they were highly successful entrepreneurs – did I fit?
What If? What If? What If?

It can be so very easy to talk yourself right out of being successful – and staying stuck!

There are many of excuses I hear, each and every day, from entrepreneurs . Can you see yourself in any of these?

1. I am an introvert, so I don’t want to go out and network.
2. I don’t know how to explain what I do…….well enough for people to understand the transformation I offer.
3. I don’t have the money to grow my business.
4. People won’t pay me what I’m worth.
5. I LIKE to work at my computer all day.
6. I’ll wait for referrals to come in (that will help to grow my business!).
7. I don’t have the clothes.
8. I don’t have the time.
9. I don’t really want to make a lot of money……..just enough to……..
10. I don’t know where or how to find new clients.

Well, here’s a ‘news flash’ for you– we all have those thoughts, at one time or another. Successful people make a decision – and just go do it – and that’s what keeps them unstuck.

If you haven’t read the book, “Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway!” by Susan Jeffers, then run out today and get it.As my mentor Lou Tice always said to me, “It’s ok to be intimidated – it’s not ok to STAY intimidated!” His words ring in my ear almost on a daily basis. That keeps me unstuck!

Conclusion:

Of course there will be times when you feel stuck, uncertain, intimidated – just don’t stay there. We all have our gifts and talents and it is our responsibility to share them with the world. If the list of excuses shown above really resonate with you, then do something about it.

Perhaps it is time to ask yourself the question, seriously, “Am I in business or am I just busy?”If the work you are doing is just a hobby, then go get a job to help support yourself.

If you are serious about growing your business, making money and helping to make a difference in the world – then do what it takes to get unstuck. There are powerful resources out there – a plethora of information, truth be told! One of the keys to success is to get yourself a coach – every successful person has one – do you?

YOUR ASSIGNMENT
