Most people are looking for the instant path to success. They want success and they want it now and they don't want any challenges or obstacles along the way. Yet common sense tells you there’s no such thing as a free lunch, so how can you expect to have an idea and then have that idea instantly materialize into success?

We both know that’s about as likely as winning a lottery or getting struck by lightning. To succeed you do need a valuable idea. Beyond that you have to have persistence.

Persistence is born from your burning desire to succeed. You have to want it badly enough to care deeply enough to continue in spite of all the challenges you will face. Unfortunately there are many marketers who successfully prey on the people who want something for nothing.

You have a great idea that you know can succeed, but do you want to get that success badly enough to do the things you may not want to do? The intensity of your desire will determine your level of persistence. When your desire is great enough you will find a way around any obstacle thrown at you so you can keep going.

Most people fall short of the finish line and give up too soon. They have all kinds of reasons that sound really valid like: they ran out of money, they didn’t have the support of the people they needed, or they just couldn’t go on any longer. But when you’re persistent you will find a way to get the money you need, you will get the help of the people you need, and you will continue even though you’re exhausted.

Lack of persistence is really just a weakness. But the great news is that you can overcome that weakness through action. The more actions you take the more persistent you will become because each of those actions are taking you closer to what you want.

Sometimes the greatest lessons and gifts appear as failure. Those failures are really just temporary defeat. You can’t fail unless you give up and you can’t find success if you allow yourself to fail because you lack the persistence to back up your desire.

So when you feel your persistence weakening, stop and take stock. Revisit your reason for wanting to succeed. Rekindle and fortify your desire. Choose the most important next action and then take that action. Persistence needs action to stay strong and you won’t succeed without persistence.
