“I’m going to start my own business one day”

“One day I plan on taking a trip to Hawaii”

“I’ll get around to cleaning the garage one day”

“I want to go back and finish my degree, but I’m too old”

The power of setting goals and accomplishing them has a positive impact on our lives. When we allow negative thinking, procrastination and yes, even people to prevent us from accomplishing our goals, it has a negative impact on our lives that can set us back months, years and yes, even a life time.

So, what’s the solution to setting and accomplishing goals? It’s pure and simple ACTION! From the time we write or verbally say that we want to accomplish a particular thing or project, it is our responsibility to create a system to make it happen. This means that we must schedule time to write down the tasks that must be put to action and the resources needed to accomplish them.

Dreams, desires and visions are meant to be accomplished. They reflect our greatness and help us to reach our full potential. When we ignore them or procrastinate in accomplishing them, we build a life of regret that can cause stress, depression and a sense of failure.

Do you have goals that you have been putting off? Do you find yourself saying the words, “one day” too often? If so, there’s no better time than now to start living your dreams and making things happen!

Below are 5 ways to take action in accomplishing your goals:

Make a commitment
Verbally saying that you are going to accomplish something and doing it are two different things. A commitment backed up with action is the sure way to start accomplishing your goals. A good way to hold yourself accountable is to work with a life or success coach that can partner with you in staying on course.
Take a goal setting seminar or workshop
Consider taking a goal setting class or workshop to learn more effective techniques and develop your skills in goal setting .

Develop a system Knowing how you will accomplish your goal is most important. You must develop a system consisting of the time frame that you would like to accomplish the goal by; identifying any challenges that might prevent you from accomplishing your goal and finding solutions to rid them; identifying the tasks necessary to see it through.

Create a Mini-Vision Board
Sometimes having something visual to look at can provide us with the motivation to take action. Try making your own mini-vision board. Cut out pictures from magazines that represent accomplishing your goal. Using a sheet of 8x11 card stock paper (leave about a 2 inch space at the top), glue your pictures in a collage fashion. At the top of your vision board, write your goal and the deadline you will complete it. You can place your board in a 9x12 picture frame and place it on your night stand or bathroom counter or simply post it on your bathroom mirror, refrigerator or other location where you will see it frequently.

Consider forming a Goal Setting Support Group
You might have friends and associates that have been trying to accomplish their goals, but need encouragement and support as well. Consider hosting informal goal setting discussions bi-weekly or monthly to discuss your goal setting progress. This is a great way to gain new and fresh ideas and motivation .

There’s no time like the present to start taking action in accomplishing your goals. Start by just working on a goal that you can complete in 30 days. Experience the satisfaction and joy of knowing that you made it happen and let that be your motivation to move on to the next goal.

So, it’s time to move to the start line. Are you ready to take action? Are you ready to put on your commitment shoes on? If so, there’s no better time like today to get started.READY, SET, GO!
