"Go ahead and make the first move"
So, my son is starting Kindergarten next week, a big step in his little life. Of coursehe is anxious, I am anxious, and my husband is anxious. Like any mom, I want to dowhatever I can to create a smooth and comforting transition. I thought it would makesuch a huge difference if my son were able to meet some kids in his class prior to the first day of school. Of course the school is too busy to prepare something like this, so I took it upon myself to do something. I'm not the type of person to wait for someone elseto clear a trail, I'm happy to take the initiative myself. Too many of us wait for others to make the first move. We wait for someone else to approach us first. So, I called the principal and shared my idea of hosting an informal gathering at my home, and she gave me an enthusiastic thumbs up. Long story short, I had about 15 children and theirmothers at my home and we all had a great time. The kids made instant friends, and itgave the mom's an opportunity to get to know each other as well. The children are nowa little less nervous and apprehensible about starting a new school. All the mom's wereextremely apppreciative that I hosted this party, as it will make the transition for their kids go smoother as well. Go ahead and create your own trail, dance to your own music!
ACTION TIPS FOR THE WEEK:
1. What are you waiting for?Where in your life are you holding back? Are there specific situations where youare waiting for someone else to make the first move? Why give everyone else the power that you can harness yourself? List whatever comes to mind.
2. Take stepsNow that you have a detailed list in front of you, take a good hard look at it. Arethere instances that you could take a risk, go out of your comfort zone, and make thefirst move? Have you always wanted to get to know a co-worker better but didn't havethe confidence to ask them to grab a coffee? Have you expressed interest in joining a club or organization but were waiting for them to invite you on board? Committo moving forward in one area of your life.
3. Leader vs FollowerDo you want to be a leader or a follower? If you are comfortable following theleads of others than that is great. If however you are ready to step up to the plate, there is no better time than the present. Take baby steps before embarking on thelarger issues in your life.
Good Luck!Have a great week!
