Sherry Read
has over 20 years of industrial experience in finding solutions to business
issues using skills in human resources, compensation, statistics, and process
improvement. Since 2000 when she
relocated in Singapore,
she has focused on the human capital challenges of managing and growing
businesses in Asia Pacific. Since
arriving in Shanghai
in 2005, Sherry has founded Read Solutions Group – a coaching company – helping
people be confident and successful as leaders, particularly in multicultural
settings. She coaches individuals,
speaks to professional groups, leads workshops and writes about organizational,
leadership and coaching topics.
She started her career as a statistical consultant in a forest products
research facility. After obtaining her
masters in statistics, she joined Hewlett Packard with a focus on using total
quality control and statistical tools to improve quality of the manufacturing,
specification setting and forecasting. With
Hercules Incorporated, Sherry directed the Total Quality Management efforts and
planning for quality improvement for a division focused on packaging
materials. She transitioned into
compensation through a project on gender pay equality, and rapidly rose to the
role of Global Director of Compensation for the specialty chemical
company. With her business focus and
problem-solving skills, she took on the challenge of global HR director for a
division as it doubled in size through merger. The growth and excitement of
Asia beckoned and she relocated to Singapore with regional HR
responsibility over 14 countries.
Examples of work that she directed in the region includes post-merger
benefits harmonization in Indonesia and Korea, a divisional divestiture
involving employment transfers throughout all countries, development of a
regional all-employee bonus program, revision of sales incentive plans with a
particular focus on the key countries of China, Taiwan, Korea and Indonesia,
transferring sales responsibility and associated employees to distributors in
SE Asia and Australia, developing compensation structures for JVs and
wholly-owned enterprises in China, and regional implementation of SAP HR. Sherry repatriated after 2 ½ years in Singapore with
continued regional responsibility.
Sherry has a
BS in Statistics and Biometry from Cornell
University, a MS in Statistics from Colorado State
University, and a MBA from San Jose State University. She attended the Human Resources Executive
Program at the University
of Michigan. She is active in Shanghai in the American Chamber of Commerce
and Expatriate Professional Women’s Society, and stays current with global
human resources trends through her membership in the Society for Human
Resources and the Human Capital Institute.
Sherry is a Certified Professional Coach through International Coach Academy
and a member of the International Coach Federation.
