I am a professional artist in Portland, Oregon, and have lived a life of a person afflicted with schizo-affective disorder, which gives me the experience dealing with this disease, what prescribed drugs will help me and how to get help from my doctors. For 3 1/2 years I have attended colleges at Southern Oregon College, Umpqua Community, and Oregon State University with Majors in Elementary Education and Physical Education with Minors in Secondary Education and Sociology. I earned a CNA certificate in 1981 and for 20 years worked as a nurse aide with patients who had dementia, Alzheimer's and Cancer. Later, as a Preschool teacher I worked with children with Autism, ADHD, and Bipolar Disorder. I have acquired certificates in Recognizing Child Abuse, Violence and Prevention, Impact of ADHD on Social Development, and The Special Needs Child.
Currently I am working with NAMI Multnomah as a lecturer in the psyche wards and am an In Our Own Voice presenter. I give a meditation exercise with my lectures and I have spoken at Hospitals and Universities in Portland, Oregon. My article, "Bringing Peace and Happiness to the Psyche Ward" appears in the national publication of NAMI Voice Newsletter, Spring Edition, 2013.
