Dr. Galina
received a Ph.D. in Psychology (1986) from Concordia University and spent five
years as Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurology at Tulane
University (New Orleans) and four years on staff in the Psychology Service at
the Veterans Administration Medical Center (New Orleans). He was a part time
lecturer at Concordia in 1982-83 and since 1990 is a part-time professor at
Concordia. Also, since 1990 he has been on staff at the Applied Learning Centre
in Montreal where he is a consultant and clinical psychologist.
Dr. Galina
specializes in reducing stressful responses in clients. His main
psychotherapeutic orientation is Cognitive-Behavioral. This method of change
has been shown to be one of the most efficacious forms of therapy that can give
long-lasting effective change. Dr. Galina has also been trained in the
techniques of NLP for fast change and has been certified in “energy” psychology
techniques. Sometimes called bimodal sensory activation, energy psychology utilizes
the resources of both the body and the mind to establish durable and enduring
reframes and counterconditioning that can profoundly create a different state
in a person’s life. Clients are shown how to utilize the mind-body connection
so they can practice solution focused responding on their own.
Many people come to therapy so that the therapist can change
someone else in their lives. We all would like to do that, however, this is
impractical and doesn’t work well. The best way to change someone else (or at
least change the effect they have on you) is to change your behaviour. This
often leads to the change you want. Some
of the new “meridian therapies” offer a new relaxation and calming techniques
that modify anxiety and stress responses. They also foster body awareness and
enables positive cognitive shifts. These unique exercises calm you so that you
can think more clearly about your problem.
Dr. Galina's mission is to provide the highest quality of
care possible and he accomplishes this by keeping up to date with the latest
advances in the field of psychotherapy through his university teaching and
making new leading-edge therapies available to his clients so that they can
become empowered to turn difficulties into opportunities and move past psychological
pain and self-limitation.
He is known as caring, compassionate, understanding person
with a supportive attitude toward the people he helps. He strives to keep to
keep his clients to feel safe and comfortable enough to discuss all of their
important issues. He respects his clients and their inner resources and
abilities to move toward psychological health.
Clients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety
Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorders and Relationship
Difficulties have all benefited by the techniques that Dr, Galina’s utilizes.
