I am a seasoned psychotherapist with years of experience working with people from all walks of life (I received my masters degree in 1991), and with a full rage of problems. The clients who seek to work with me have experienced the gamut of stresses that happen in life, from marital difficulties, job pressures, and difficulties with children, to the issues created by trauma, PTSD and addiction. Often clients come to me who have externally successful lives, but are looking for more balance and meaning.
My colleague Susan Rudnick, LCSW and I were drawn to the problem of sleeplessness because we noticed, in addition to our own occasional troubles falling and staying asleep, many of our clients, at one point or another, have suffered from this problem. When people are overwhelmed by stress and anxiety, they are vulnerable to sleep-related problems and/or insomnia. Insomnia then may compound the problems that brought them in to see us. We developed Rest Well Tonight workshops and individual sessions. Please visit our website at www.restwelltonight.com .
Because we have worked with so many people over many years, we recognize that each person who experiences sleeplessness is a unique individual who brings along their difficulties, strengths and potentials to shift and find solutions to this problem. Each person needs and deserves to be listened to as an individual.
We offer you not only suggestions about your external sleep environment; we assist you in reclaiming your capacity to rest into sleep.
I am trained in EMDR, a very effective and well regarded technique for treating trauma, and hypnosis. In addition, I am Certified Focusing Trainer. Focusing, is a wonderful listening process that assists in gaining understanding. You may read about Focusing at the Rest Well Tonight website.
Psychotherapy is offered in my office in the Union Square area of New York City.

What helps one person, may be different for another. I will help you create unique ways to ease yourself during the day, and into deeper rest and sleep at night.
I work with individuals and groups (sleep-related groups in collaboration with my colleague Susan Rudnick, LCSW), in person and via telephone, assisting people who experience difficulties falling or staying asleep, are wakeful during the night, or wake feeling un-rested.
Issues and emotions may be become magnified during the night. Fear, despair, anger, frustration, loneliness or critical voices may feel overwhelming. With assistance, it is possible to relax more, even in those wakeful moments, and reclaim your natural capacity to sleep. Experiential exercises are designed for you to find, practice and expand the ones that are just right to help you. A full repertoire of gentle non-medicinal tools may be easily practiced and integrated in ways that will be unique to you.
Awareness is the first step. Gui ding questions will help you to begin with new understanding. With practice, each success will build confidence in your capacities. I will assist you in having better days and finding a fresh relationship with rest and sleep.
