Are women more at risk than men in getting gout? A new study out says there may be a link that comes with dangers, especially if women enjoy sugary sodas filled with fructose-filled beverages and drinks. In fact, statistics show that in 1996 there were an estimated 42 people for every 100,000 suffering from gout, up from 16 per every 100,000 in 1977.

Nearly 80,000 women, who initially began with no signs of gout, began the Nurses’ Health Study, taking place between 1984 and 2006. A distinct link in sugary beverages was offered when women who consumed one serving per day were 74% more likely to have problems with gout later on in life.
