Anger has become such a normal part of our world. Between hectic schedules and additional responsibilities, not to mention the divisiveness driven by news and social media, negativity seems to bubble below the surface of our lives. The problem is that if you’re on a conscious spiritual journey, it doesn’t feel good.

Anger is a strong emotion that impacts your entire nervous system.

Anger triggers the body’s “fight” or ‘flight” response, which causes stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol to flood the body. Depending on how angry you are, you might not be capable of making rational choices or behaving in a way that is aligned with who you really are.At its core, anger is nothing but the ego reacting to life not going according to plan, specifically your plan. Whether it’s because you hit a detour when you were late or someone disagreed with you on Facebook, it always comes back to unmet expectations.

A deep breath can help in the moment, but anger that isn’t fully processed stays in the mind and the body waiting for the chance to reactivate with the next unmet expectation.
Feeling angry permeates every facet of your life.
Your physical, emotional and spiritual bodies are all affected when you’re angry. There is plenty of research now proving the detrimental impact stress has on the body and mind. Nothing creates stress more quickly than being angry.

Western medicine has finally recognized the benefits of more holistic techniques when dealing with anger. Traditional anger management, which includes things like exercise and talk therapy, was once the only option. Now more Eastern methods like meditation, acupuncture and yoga are being used. But is it enough?

Anger isn’t always from this lifetime.

It’s a gift when you can pinpoint exactly why you’re angry but what happens when you can’t identify the cause? I hear the term “free floating anger” a lot these days and people feel frustrated when they can’t figure out why they feel angry. They often question if something is “wrong” with them.

There are several reasons why you may not understand the root of the anger. Perhaps it’s caused by something you experienced when you were young that hasn’t been fully processed. It could also be because you’re working against something dictated by a past life or even a contract you agreed to in this lifetime.

When we’re unaware of the commitments we’ve made, we can find ourselves bucking our path, which often leads to experiences that cause us to be angry because things aren’t going according to “plan.”
