50 Best Children's Books (and Magazines) -- For Ages 3-103
Educator's list for parents and teachers, librarians.
* Much can be accomplished in self help for mental health disorders.
* Lifestyle changes can make a difference.
* Medications are being overprescribed for mental health disorders.
* ADHD rarely (never) requires medication.
Symptoms of ADHD can be overcome by the majority of children and teens by cutting back on television, movie and video game time, toning down the intensity of music and amount of time on non-educational electronics/internet, by giving children love and attention, as well as attention to diet: low sugar, low carbs, low on additives, no caffeine. Parents, psychologists, encourage parents to take the TV and video games, the Internet, out of the child's bedroom! Set time limits on media time! Don't let children watch violence on TV, movies and video games! It will make a difference in ADHD, depression and bipolar disorder.
For mild and moderate depression, reliable university studies have demonstrated that moderate exercise 3-5 times a week helps depression more than medication in both the short and long-term.
30% of the symptoms of bipolar disorder can be remedied through attention to diet and nutrtion, cutting out cigarette smoking, and cutting out alcohol or other substance abuse.
Antidepressants have serious symptoms including sexual dysfunction (50% of adults), and an increase in suicidality in age groups of children up to age 24.
Attention to mental hygiene is a necessity. Spiritual needs are also important to fulfill.
Green therapy also works for ADHD and depression, that is getting out of the house and hiking, playing in the park, etc.
