I was born on the Big Island of Sao Miquel, Azores (Portugal) on November 21, 1956, 4th of 6 children (3 boys, 3 girls). My Father immigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1957 to establish a better lifestyle until he was able to send for us in November of 1961. The 9 islands of the Azores sit in the middle of the Altantic Ocean. Claimed by ancient Portuguese explorers, they are acutally closer, (by nautical miles) to the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
In 1974, shortly after High School graduation I began working in Toronto's Financial district, primarily in the Investment Banking sectors; Securities trading/Custody/Client Representation...etc I spent 22 years with CIBC and 4.5 years with RBC. In 1984, I was a Supervisor, Data Control (Securities Dept) and became part of a huge initiative for CIBC, going from a paper environment to an electronic platform called S.M.A.C. - Securities Movement & Control.
The application was literally "hammered" into place and the fact that it met with User & Client requirements was nothing short of a miracle. My career continued to progress into the Business/Systems Project Development and I was fortunate to be exposed to a "new age" era in the Banking industry and acheive the valuable and sofisticated level of training. No University can prepare you for "real-time" and real life situations that I operated in or teach you how to be less sensitve to Boiler room profanities, but growing up with 3 Brothers, helped cultivate my resilience and off-beat humour.
