The subconscious mind is like a vast and perhaps infinite reservoir of power and creativity latent and dormant within you. Gaining access to that subconscious power and creativity does not happen only accidentally. By using affirmations /autosuggestion - effectively self hypnosis - you are knocking on the door of your all powerful subconscious mind, conveying to it in words and mental images a picture of what it is that you earnestly wish to bring into your life.

To some with limited awareness or knowledge of the power of the mind, this would probably seem merely to be a case of wishful thinking, but it is not.

"When a thought or an image becomes fixed in the mind to the exclusion of all other thoughts and images, then that thought or image eventually becomes a reality in your life".

A glimpse into the power of the subconscious can be deduced from the placebo effect. If a patient is in pain and is given a placebo by a doctor, or someone who has the appropriate air of medical authority, and is convincingly told that the placebo is a powerful pain killer, all or at least some of the pain will disappear. Why? Because the patient believes that the doctor and the drug are real, and the subconscious acts accordingly and causes the pain to stop. Completely, if the patient's belief is total, partially if the patient's belief is partial.

All mental and physical health or ill health, all success or failure in matters of relationships or career or anything else, ultimately depends on what is going on in the subconscious. If you believe in or desire something strongly enough, the subconscious "gets the message" and sends into your conscious awareness ideas, notions or urges - effectively signposts - which would never have previously occurred to you, thereby subtly guiding you through the steps required to actually fulfil your goal.

If your goal is to become for example wealthy, or more confident, or become more attractive to others, then the ability to make this happen already exists within your subconscious, irrespective of how low an opinion you may consciously and mistakenly have about your abilities. The question is how to draw it out and put it into practice in your day to day life. This can be achieved by creating a link between your conscious desire for something and your subconscious, which has the power to make it happen.

Hypnosis/self hypnosis undoubtedly represents the most effective method of linking to and gaining at least some access to the untapped abilities of the subconscious and of providing a means by which you can focus that untapped ability toward the fulfilment of your goal. Affirmations are a powerful means of communicating your heart's desire to the subconscious, or "the God within" as it's been otherwise referred to. An affirmation is a statement of intent or aspiration, and when used under the right conditions of mental and physical relaxation - relaxation being essential in order to slow down the negative and critical tendency of the conscious mind - the subconscious becomes more open to and accepting of the affirmation itself, thereby enabling it to begin the creation of the reality suggested by the affirmation .

Here is an affirmation that has been used by thousands of people to successfully boost confidence and self esteem . When you've got yourself mentally and physically relaxed, in privacy, quiet and comfort, whisper to yourself, slowly and deliberately, the following words: "Hour by hour, and day by day, I'm becoming more and more confident in every way". Repeat this, slowly and deliberately, around 20 - 30 times, all the while visualizing in your mind an image of yourself as a confident and self assured person. After this, pause for a couple of minutes then whisper "I'm becoming more and more confident in every way" a further 10 - 15 times, all the while maintaining your relaxed breathing and visualization, then let it tail off into a purely mental repetition, then let it fade away altogether.

Use this simple, rudimentary but effective affirmation in the manner described every day or evening for 2 - 4 weeks and you'll notice a significant difference for the better in your attitude and outlook.

Affirmations can be used in this way to successfully address problems in any area, be it regarding weight loss , smoking, making yourself feel - and therefore actually become - more attractive, and so on.

You have the power within you to be who you want to be and live the life you want to live, it's only a question of learning to tap into that power.

Author's Bio:

I have studied and written extensively on hypnosis, psychology and the subconscious periodically since the 1980's. My interest in these subjects was initially sparked by reading accounts of the truly remarkable and incredible things which the human mind and body has been irrefutably shown to be capable of while under hypnosis.

My investigations into the source of these hidden abilities ultimately led me to integrate the practice and principles of self hypnosis into my own life, with the result that I am now living on a level of personal happiness and fulfilment which would otherwise have remained invisible and thus unattainable. I have successfully helped many friends and others to overcome smoking addiction, confidence and relationship issues, among other things, by instructing them in self hypnosis techniques and in how to use these techniques to tap into their dormant strengths and ablities. You can learn more about self hypnosis and its potential at my website http://self-hypnosis-the-key.com which has information on weight loss, building self esteem, quitting smoking, overcoming phobias and much more.
