Natural urine flow is immediately restored as a wide open channel is created. All this time the urologist is able to view all this on a video monitor through the cystoscope. Once the procedure is complete, the patient is observed for 24 hours and then can go home. A catheter is usually needed for a day or two, and sometimes not.

Are There Any Side-Effects?
Side effects may include presence or traces of blood in the urine, which is common, and clears within 10 to 14 days.Patients may feel a burning or stinging sensation for some time after the procedure, which may last up to 6 or 7 weeks. One of the serious side effects is that normal ejaculation will cease with certainty after the procedure. This is because of the fact that the contraction that occurs during orgasm may not completely block the entrance to the bladder once some tissue has been removed and semen will flow back into the bladder resulting in a retrograde or ‘dry’ ejaculation without going out through the penis. Thus, future fertility is greatly reduced.
