The Mindset Train
There are times when our thoughts and actions do not necessarily fall in line with what would be to our greatest advantage in life. Instead of being proactive toward living a better, more fulfilling life, many of us go through times when we inadvertently limit our actions, growth and successes. There are likely many reasons why any of us might carry unproductive mindsets and, knowingly or not, sabotage our own ends, including simply a lack of motivation
or uncertainty of direction.
However, there are also many far more insidious insecurities and perceptions holding people back from realizing potential and living their best life. Unfortunately and ironically, many such hindrances are tied to varying degrees of need for approval and fear of disapproval from others, rather than on our own true needs, desires and abilities.
In some cases, a deep seated fear of disapproval can be so acute it severely diminishes one’s actions and exposure to others. Whether applied toward a prominent figure or figures in one’s life, the general public, one’s peers or even one’s concern for self-perception, the result is very often a painfully limited and stagnant existence.
A predominant mental/emotional backdrop limiting many people’s ability to live a happier, more fulfilling life lies in an inability to move beyond certain negative messages, insecurities and/or other issues; intimidating factors that over time can create a general mindset of failure, hopelessness and subsequent inactivity or “hiding”.
If this all sounds a bit too familiar, maybe it’s time to try taking a step back from the thoughts and feelings that have caused and accompanied you during such times. If possible, try distancing yourself enough to see them from a more simplistic, objective point of view rather than as an inseparable part of who you are. Granted, as overbearing as these thoughts can be, creating the distance necessary for doing this is far more easily said than done and success will vary.
It may help to try looking at your mindset this way; not to be overly simplistic, but from a very basic standpoint many negative thoughts and feelings exist in a general mindset of perception, or train of thought, if you will. And with the right options of perception there are few trains of thought that cannot be derailed or at least seriously sidetracked. Think about it; if you were unable to change your perceptions or perspectives in life you would literally be incapable of learning
anything new.
One way to start the derailment process is to begin creating, in earnest, new and more optimistic interactive perceptions of yourself, along with apropos and supportive mindsets designed around your personal happiness
. The more genuinely they represent the life and interactive exchanges you truly desire, and the more you think and act in accordance with these upbeat concepts, the faster you will succeed in making them an enduring, self-perpetuating reality.
If you honestly believe in these alternate scenarios, and the more you are able to step outside of your constrictive mindsets, the synergy you create will help you to all the more effectively counter and replace them over time. Ironically, when your begin replacing older, negative self-perceptions with more optimistic ones, seeing yourself and your life in a more positive light, you are actually visualizing a more accurate picture of them both than is all too often painted by self-deprecating thoughts and feelings!
